Nutrition for an abscess

General description of the disease

An abscess (abscess, abscess) is a concentration of purulent masses that accumulate in tissues, in internal organs and are isolated by the wall of the abscess (it protects healthy tissues from those in which there is a purulent process).

The reason is a purulent infection, often it is staphylococcus, streptococcus, less often Escherichia coli. Also, an abscess can cause the introduction of vaccines or injections and the ingress of chemicals into the tissue layer (for example, gasoline, kerosene, etc.).

Places of abscess formation:

  1. 1 dead body tissue after injury or skin damage;
  2. 2 healthy tissues that have been heavily infected with purulent microbes.

The course and symptoms of an abscess:

1. Acute. With it, in the place affected by microbes, swelling, redness, painful sensations and tingling appear, the temperature rises, pus comes out:

  • with staphylococcal disease – thick pus, yellow-green;
  • with E. coli – blue-green in color and has a sweetish odor;
  • with putrid flora – pus has a fetid odor and is dark gray in color.

2. Chronic. With this type of abscess, symptoms practically do not appear, and pus does not spread in the original place of occurrence, but mainly far from it, penetrates into different tissues and form an abscess with a limited amount of pus (sintered abscess). A striking example is osteoarticular tuberculosis.

There are such general signs of an abscess:

  • increased body temperature;
  • weakness;
  • persistent headache;
  • poor appetite;
  • an increased number of leukocytes in the blood (up to 20 thousand, and sometimes more);
  • high erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR);
  • intoxication of the body.

It all depends on the place, pathogen and depth of damage to the tissues of the body and internal organs.
