The recovery time after the removal of appendicitis depends not only on the successful operation, but also on how smoothly the postoperative period goes. To avoid any complications, it is important to follow all the doctor’s recommendations and eat right.

Nutrition in the first days after the removal of appendicitis
An appendectomy, or surgery to remove appendicitis, is a serious stress on the body. The drugs used for anesthesia, and the surgical intervention itself, does not in the best way affect the general well-being and the state of the digestive tract. That is why it is especially important to eat right after the removal of appendicitis.
On the one hand, food must be nutritious to meet the needs of a weakened body. On the other hand, it should be easily absorbed so as not to injure the operated intestine once again.
In the early days, you must follow a strict diet. Immediately after surgery, you will most likely have no appetite, but you may be very thirsty. In the absence of nausea, you can drink water or warm sweet tea. This should be done in small sips so as not to provoke vomiting. By the evening of the first day, you can include rice broth, low-fat chicken broth and fruit jelly in the diet.
In the first days after the removal of appendicitis, it is necessary not only to limit the diet, but also to closely monitor the temperature of the food. It must be at least 20 and not higher than 50 ° С
On the second and third days after the operation, you can eat yogurt, boiled zucchini or pumpkin puree, fruit jelly. You need to eat in small portions at least 5-6 times a day. In addition to water and tea, diluted juices, herbal teas and berry fruit drinks are allowed.
Nutrition in the late postoperative period
Starting from the fourth day, you can gradually expand your diet. First, you can enter porridge in the menu, then – mashed soups and dairy products. If there is no negative reaction from the gastrointestinal tract, from the fifth or sixth day after the operation, it is necessary to expand the diet with other products.
An approximate list of them may be as follows:
- vegetable purees
- unsalted butter
- boiled meat and fish of low-fat varieties
- bread (preferably yesterday)
- oven baked fruit
Starting from the seventh day, you can include dairy products, cheese, dried apricots, marmalade and honey in the menu.
In severe postoperative period, the timing of the introduction of new products may be shifted.
You can return to your usual diet, which includes eggs, raw fruits and berries, legumes, mushroom dishes and pastries, no earlier than 2-3 weeks. It is advisable not to eat spicy, fatty, fried and smoked foods for at least one and a half to two months after the operation.
