Demodicosis is a disease caused by an excessively multiplying parasite – Demodex, which occurs naturally on the skin. What is demodicosis? How can you deal with it?
Demodicosis – symptoms of the disease
Demodicosis manifests itself in a very visible and characteristic way. Changes appear more often than on the body on the face, limbs or intimate areas. They usually take the form of red spots, inflammation or non-inflammation (papules, pimples, blackheads, blackheads), which are also itchy and flaky. Demodicosis can also cause hair and eyebrow loss. With the development of the disease, the risk of skin lesions on the edges of the eyelids also increases. Their presence in this place causes very unpleasant consequences, such as loss of eyelashes.

Demodicosis – causes of the disease
Demodicosis is a problem many people face, mainly because of the high risk of infection. The most common causes of morbidity include:
- direct contact with an infected person,
- using the personal belongings of the sick person or the carrier,
- transmission of parasites by pollutants.
Whether a person falls ill ultimately depends on several factors, the decisive factor of which is the efficiency of the immune system. A weakened, infected organism is more susceptible to infection. Immunity is also reduced by: improper hygiene, poor diet, hormonal disorders, pharmacological treatment. Age is also a risk factor, as demodicosis develops more often in adults.
Demodicosis – home and pharmacological treatment
Demodicosis is a serious disease that may contribute to causing other diseases, such as rosacea, therefore the appearance of the first symptoms requires quick and effective treatment.
In the first stage of the fight against demodicosis, thorough face care is crucial. In addition to the use of various types of medications, the patient should observe very careful hygiene. It is advisable to wash your face regularly, use disposable products and exchange personal items – says Karolina Formela, cosmetologist at Clinica Cosmetologica.

The next step in treatment is pharmacological treatment based on antibiotics. The therapy can be supplemented with preparations recommended for use at home, containing, among others: tea tree oil or herbs. Home treatment of demodicosis can be effective provided that the application of cosmetics for demodicosis is systematic and accurate.
On the recommendation of a specialist, I chose tea tree oil because it has antibacterial properties. Applied pointwise and in a small amount, it dried the lesions and brought relief. As a supplement, I also used the natural Odexim Demodex cream. The combination of these two cosmetics turned out to be a bull’s eye! – writes Mrs. Jagoda from Przemyśl.
