In a concrete bunker – the recipe and the cookie itself. This is how the company responds to the threat of the approaching asteroid 2018 VP1, which is expected on November XNUMX.
To preserve the most valuable, the company chose the Svalbard archipelago in Norway. In this permafrost zone (coordinates 78 ° 08 ‘58,1, 16 “N, 01 ° 59,7 ‘XNUMX” E), the Global OREO Vault concrete bunker was built.
The cookie brand says the silo contains an Oreo recipe and a stock of cookies. By the way, as an additional security measure, Oreo packaging was wrapped in a special film that can withstand temperature drops from – 60 to 150 degrees Celsius, protects against moisture, air and chemicals in general.
This event is supported by a YouTube video about the bunker. Within a few days, the published video received almost 29 views. Many commentators commented that they liked the idea.
However, the bunker and the hype around it are more like a publicity stunt. Although his scenario is based on a real, but very minor threat.
So, back in August, it was published on the official NASA Asteroid Watch Twitter account that a “very small” asteroid known as 2018VP1 has a chance (0,41%) to enter the Earth’s atmosphere in the first week of November. It was also indicated that this asteroid would not pose any threat, as “it will disintegrate due to its extremely small size.”
