Novate is an ointment medicine containing clobetasol propionate. It is assigned by a dermatologist if you want an anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and anti-exudative effect.

Novate – composition

The active substance of the drug Novate jest klobetazol (clobetasol propionate), which is a synthetically produced glucocorticosteroid with a potent reliever effect. Topically applied drugs of glucocorticoid origin are used primarily in dermatological treatment. Klobetazol it is valued in treatment mainly due to its following properties:

  1. clobetasol has an anti-inflammatory effect,
  2. exhibits the properties of a substance that counteracts itch,
  3. narrows the blood vessels of the skin,
  4. it relieves typical allergic symptoms (it is an immunosuppressive drug).

Though steroids are well-researched substances, they are accurate klobetazolu is not precisely known. The mechanism of its action concerns the effects on the functioning of the pituitary and adrenal glands (this effect, however, is regressive). Due to its vasoconstrictive properties, it hardly penetrates into the blood. After all, the drug Novate should not be – due to the content of a strong action klobetazolu – use on large surfaces of the body or on damaged areas of the body.

Novate – steroid ointment. What is it used for?

Novate steroid ointment is assigned by a doctor in the case of the following disease entities:

– psoriasis (except in the case of broad-spectrum psoriasis),

– lichen planus,

– chronic lupus erythematosus.

Novate steroid ointment is used when other medications have proved ineffective in dermatological treatment.

Novate – application

Novate steroid ointment it is used by external and local application of a small amount of the product to the skin lesion. A small amount of the ointment should be applied once a day. If the skin symptoms have healed, the use of the ointment should be discontinued immediately due to the strong effect of corticosteroids. Treatment Novate steroid ointment should not take longer than 2 tygodnie – most correctly diagnosed symptoms disappear within a few days of starting treatment. In the case of facial skin, this period is shortened to 5 days. Treatment of facial skin that requires a longer course must be preceded by a break in use and consultation with a doctor. Do not exceed doses 50 g of applied ointment per week.

Novate steroid ointment – contraindications

For use contraindications Novate ointments you should, inter alia, include:

  1. acne and rosacea,
  2. primary viral skin infections (e.g. cold sores or chicken pox)
  3. itching in the anus and genital area,
  4. perioral dermatoses,
  5. primary fungal or bacterial skin infections,
  6. patient’s age under the age of one,
  7. long-term use of the ointment,
  8. pregnancy,
  9. breast-feeding,
  10. hypersensitivity to any of the active or excipients.

Be especially careful when using it Novate steroid ointment in case of skin irritation or allergies. In such situations, the use of the drug should be discontinued immediately. The ointment should not be applied to the mucous membranes or damaged skin, and the area around the eyes should also be avoided.
