Researchers from the University of Manchester observed 120 people who had had coronavirus, after which they revealed sad statistics: every eighth after a while announced hearing problems.

Half of the subjects complained of tinnitus, and the other 8 people say that their hearing has become worse. It is reported that the average age of patients who have questions about their own hearing is 64 years. However, there is one more unpleasant observation: the majority of hearing complaints before the illness did not exist at all. Only a few had this problem before, and now they have significantly worsened.
It also became known about a case in one of London hospitals, where a 45-year-old man lost his hearing. The patient, connected to a ventilator, spent 30 days in intensive care, after which he was transferred to a regular ward. As soon as the man was glad that he was recovering, an incomprehensible ringing appeared in his ears. As a result, he stopped hearing with his left ear.
Doctors are puzzled: they have not yet encountered such complications. Special studies have confirmed: this is not a common inflammation and not a blockage of the ear canal. Hearing loss occurs due to damage to the nervous system and sudden problems in the middle ear. Doctors believe that the only possible reason for such manifestations is COVID-19.
The same patient from the intensive care unit was prescribed a course of injections and steroids, after which the hearing was only partially restored. The man still does not hear 100%.
Experts already have a version of how the virus affects hearing, but it still needs to be tested. The main thing doctors are asking now is to closely monitor seriously ill patients and those who complain of at least some tinnitus. If you suddenly have even the slightest complaints, you should immediately contact the appropriate specialists who will help to avoid hearing loss.
