You have nothing to hope for if you look bored or make slippery comments about someone else’s appearance. What other individual qualities make you refuse to continue communication with a potential partner?
Researchers from the University of Nicosia (Cyprus), whose article
First, the researchers conducted a survey of 212 men and women who were asked to list all the personality traits or behaviors that negate the desire to flirt with a new acquaintance. The result was a list of 69 positions, which was then presented to another 734 men and women.
They were asked to imagine that someone was flirting with them, and to rate the extent to which each of the characteristics mentioned in the list would cause them to refuse to continue dating. Finally, 11 main factors were identified that promise failure on a first date.
Reasons for reluctance to continue communication after the first date
Poor personal hygiene — rotten teeth, bad breath and so on.
Lack of exclusive interest — a potential partner looks bored, stares at other women or men.
Coarseness — the interlocutor makes slippery, offensive, sexist comments about the appearance of other people.
Vulgar, vulgar vocabulary of a new acquaintance.
Pathetic appearance.
Overly intimate behavior.
Lack of intelligence.
Lack of sense of humor and low self-esteem.
Narcissistic personality traits.
Greed.
Lack of common views on various issues.
At the same time, all these factors scored much higher in women than in men. This may indicate that women are more demanding of the personal qualities and behavior of a new acquaintance than men, the researchers say.
Similarly, older participants were more picky about potential partners than younger ones. Such a difference may indicate that as people age, their standards rise, they understand what they want better, and are more attuned to long-term relationships than young people.
