Normal body temperature during pregnancy
Expectant mothers carefully monitor their health, and even a slight rise in body temperature can cause serious concern. To find out what the normal temperature is during pregnancy, you need to understand the peculiarities of the body of a pregnant woman.
What should be the normal body temperature during pregnancy?
An increase in temperature indicates an inflammatory process, a cold or a viral disease. However, an increase in the mercury column to 37 degrees during the first trimester of waiting for the baby is an absolute norm.
Pregnancy in itself is a serious test for the body: hormonal changes occur, the level of progesterone increases, there is a slowed down heat transfer and, as a result, an increased body temperature. In addition, a woman begins to sensitively react to external stimuli: heat, lack of air in a stuffy room, stress, etc.
What temperature during pregnancy is considered normal from the 14th week? In the 2nd and 3rd trimesters, the expectant mother should be wary: an elevated temperature can be a signal of the onset of an inflammatory process or infection with a cold. Thermometer readings above 37,5 are a serious reason to consult a doctor and take action to reduce temperature readings.
An infection or a virus accompanied by a fever can not only seriously damage the mother’s health, but also endanger the life of the unborn child. Possible complications include:
- detachment of the placenta;
- miscarriage;
- preterm delivery;
- violation of the development of the baby’s organs.
Pregnant women need to stock up on a small list of necessary medications that will improve the condition and also do not harm the developing fetus.
