Normaclin – action, indications, side effects, drug interactions

Normaclin is a drug in the form of a gel or spray with antibacterial properties. It is widely used in dermatology for the topical treatment of acne vulgaris. The preparation is available only on prescription. Depending on the pharmacy, its price may be PLN 15-20.

Action, indications and dosage of Normaclin

Normaclin is a gel for topical application to the skin that it contains clindamycin. This substance belongs to the group of bacteriostatic antibiotics, i.e. inhibiting the development and multiplication of bacteria responsible for the formation of acne vulgaris, especially Propionibacterium acnes. In composition Normaclin is also located allantoinwhich soothes irritations and, thanks to its moisturizing properties, reduces skin dryness.

The doctor decides on the dose and frequency of administration of the drug individually. Most often, the preparation is used twice a day. The gel is applied or sprayed on diseased places. The result of treatment is noticeable after a minimum of 8-12 weeks of regular use.

Contraindications, side effects and drug interactions

Before use Normaclin please read it carefully leaflet. The preparation is not used if the patient is allergic to clindamycin or lincomycin, as well as to auxiliary substances. It is not recommended for children under 12 years of age. People who suffer from ulcerative colitis, antibiotic colitis, Crohn’s disease and myasthenia gravis, should consult their doctor before taking this medicine. Currently, there are no studies to support the effect of clindamycin on pregnancy, therefore Normaclin should only be used when justified by exceptional necessity. In addition, women who intend to try for a child in the near future should inform their doctor about it before using the drug.

Normaclinlike any other drug, it can induce side effects and the most common are skin dryness, itching, erythema, oily skin, folliculitis, allergy, eye irritation. Sometimes there are digestive system disorders – flatulence, diarrhea, indigestion, abdominal pain.

In rare cases, severe pseudomembranous enteritis may occur due to the absorption of clindamycin into the body. This disease almost always occurs as a result of taking antibiotics. It manifests itself as watery diarrhea with blood, fever, abdominal pain and leukocytosis. In case of side effects, consult a doctor immediately.

If during treatment Normaclin other topical medications are used, combining them should be avoided. Consult your doctor when taking muscle relaxants and antibiotics to treat infections at the same time.
