No-Spa forte (active substance drotaverine – drotaverini hydrochloridum, a synthetic derivative of papaverine) is a drug that relaxes smooth muscles. The maximum plasma concentration is reached approximately 45 minutes to an hour after ingestion. The drug is metabolized in the liver and excreted in urine and bile. It is a preparation that is easily absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. It acts on the smooth muscles of the digestive tract, bile ducts, genitourinary system and the circulatory system. Available as 80 mg tablets (in packs of 20 or 50). The preparation is available without a prescription, but before the first use it is better to consult a doctor or pharmacist about the dosage.
No-Spa Forte – indications
No-Spa is a reliever medication, relieving pain of both muscular and nervous origin. The most common indications for its use are:
- smooth muscle contractions of the digestive tract (gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer, enteritis, gastritis, colitis),
- irritable bowel syndrome,
- inflammation of the pancreas,
- smooth muscle contractions in diseases of the biliary tract (cholelithiasis, cholecystitis, inflammation of the bile ducts),
- contractile conditions of smooth muscles of the urinary tract (nephrolithiasis, inflammation of the renal pelvis, ureterolithiasis, cystitis),
- supportive in spasms of the genital tract (with painful menstruation),
- headaches (of vascular origin).
No-Spa Forte – contraindications and precautions
Pills No-Spa Forte should not be taken in the presence of the following factors:
- kidney failure
- liver failure
- circulatory failure,
- second and third degree atrioventricular block,
- during childbirth,
- under 12 years of age,
- galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency,
- glucose malabsorption syndrome.
Keep care while taking the drug, if the user suffers from hypotension. Special care should be observed if the patient is a pregnant woman – the intake of any medications should be monitored throughout the pregnancy. No-Spa Forte jest contraindicated during childbirth. As for the use of the drug in children under 12 years of age, no studies on its effects and possible effects have been conducted, therefore the administration of the preparation to a child in this age group requires special precautions.
No-Spa Forte – side effects
No-Spa Forte, like all medications you take, can cause some side effects. In this case, they can be:
- headaches and dizziness,
- insomnia,
- arterial hypotension,
- nausea,
- constipation
- allergic reactions such as itching, hives, rash, angioedema.
