Dosage

Nolicin are film-coated tablets intended for oral use. This medicine should be taken with water (NOT milk or yoghurt). Treatment with the preparation usually lasts 7-10 days. In uncomplicated infections of the lower urinary tract (e.g. renal pelvis inflammation) – it lasts 3 days, in chronic recurrent urinary tract infections – it lasts up to 12 weeks (after improving after 4 weeks of treatment, the dose may be reduced).

Adults.

  1. usually 400 mg twice / day. Serve at least 2 hour before or 1 hours after a meal or drinking milk,
  2. Do not take multivitamin supplements, mineral supplements (e.g. iron, zinc, aluminum or magnesium), magnesium or aluminum-containing antacids (sucralfate or didanosine) within two hours of administration of norfloxacin,
  3. persons with a creatinine clearance below 30 ml / min: 400 mg once / day.

Nolicin and contraindications

Contraindications to taking Nolicin are:

  1. hypersensitivity (you are allergic) to any of the ingredients or other fluoroquinolones,
  2. pregnancy and breastfeeding,
  3. taking the drug in children and adolescents in the period of growth.

While taking Nolicin, inform your doctor if you are taking:

  1. multivitamins and other medications containing iron or zinc
  2. antacids,
  3. medicines containing magnesium or aluminum
  4. sucralfate,
  5. antiretroviral drugs (e.g. didanosine)
  6. xanthine derivatives (e.g. theophylline, pentoxifylline),
  7. caffeine,
  8. non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (e.g. ibuprofen, ketoprofen, fenbufen)
  9. cyclosporine,
  10. oral anticoagulants (e.g. warfarin)
  11. glibenklamid (sulfonylomcznik),
  12. probencyd,
  13. nitrofurantoin,
  14. metoclopramide.

because:

  1. the use of Nolicin with multivitamins, drugs and products containing iron or zinc, magnesium or aluminum (e.g. antacids), large amounts of dairy products as well as sucralfate and antiretroviral drugs (didanosine) – reduces the absorption of norfloxacin taken orally,
  2. taking with theophylline may increase blood levels and, in rare cases, cause side effects that can be life-threatening,
  3. taking the drug with nitrofurantoin – it can reduce its antibacterial effect,
  4. combining with caffeine – reduces its excretion and extends its half-life in the blood,
  5. some non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (fenbufen) in combination with the drug can cause seizures,
  6. using the preparation with cyclosporine – increases its concentration in the blood,
  7. taking a drug with warfarin – may increase the anti-clotting effect of warfarin.

The preparation may increase the concentration or intensify the effect of: glibenclamide (sulphonylurea), which can cause severe hypoglycaemia (if you need to take both medicines in parallel, your doctor will check your blood glucose regularly). Probenecid reduces the excretion of norfloxacin without affecting its blood levels.

Nolicin – warnings

  1. People with diseases of the central nervous system (epilepsy, lowered seizure threshold, history of seizures), cardiac arrhythmias, tendon diseases, muscle tiredness, deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenesis and other chronic diseases or hypersensitivity to drugs should exercise caution.
  2. In rare cases, seizures may occur while taking the drug.
  3. Tendinitis may be damaged or inflamed during use, especially in the elderly. When inflammation or rupture occurs, discontinue use of the drug and consult a physician.
  4. Muscle tiredness may be exacerbated with use.
  5. The drug can cause allergic reactions, including anaphylactic reactions.
  6. Avoid sunbathing and UV rays (solarium, quartz lamps) while taking the drug. Skin reactions similar to sunburn may occur, in which case treatment should be discontinued.
  7. People with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency should only take the drug after medical consultation, as there is a risk of haemolysis (irreversible damage to blood cells).
  8. People with cardiac arrhythmias should be careful as norphoxacin may cause changes in ECG (QTc prolongation) or arrhythmia.
  9. Patients taking cisapride, erythromycin, antipsychotics or tricyclic antidepressants who have or have had prolongation of the QTc interval on the ECG should be especially careful.
  10. Children and growing adolescents should not use the drug due to insufficient safety studies (risk of arthropathy).
  11. While driving, the drug may cause side effects: increase in reaction time, limitation of the ability to drive vehicles and operate machinery. During the medical consultation, the doctor will assess the ability to drive vehicles and operate machinery, based on the patient’s response to treatment.

Nolicin – side effects

  1. Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, flatulence, heartburn, headache, dizziness and rash may occur during the use of Nolicin. Elderly people may feel tired, sleepy and confused.
  2. Less frequently, the following may occur: anorexia, dysgeusia, sleep disturbances, agitation, increased psychomotor activity, euphoria, confusion, depression, hallucinations, anxiety reactions, tinnitus, lacrimation, increased levels of transaminases (AST, ALT) and bilirubin levels, eosinophilia, weakness , fever, pain in muscles and joints. Liver dysfunction (jaundice, hepatitis) and pancreatitis may occur.
  3. Rarely, the following may occur: pseudomembranous enteritis (manifested by severe persistent diarrhea during or after treatment), the course of which may very rarely be life-threatening. Possible photosensitivity, allergic reactions, angioedema, dyspnoea, urticaria, vasculitis, arthritis, interstitial nephritis.
  4. Very rare but serious side effects include: severe anaphylactic-type hypersensitivity reactions: severe angioedema (swelling of the lips, tongue, throat making breathing difficult), drop in blood pressure, anaphylactic shock as well as skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders (erythema multiforme, exfoliative inflammation) and the potentially life-threatening Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis). If you notice an anaphylactic reaction, you should seek medical help immediately. Possible muscle weakness, inflammation and rupture of tendons (mainly Achilles tendons), worsening of symptoms of myasthenia gravis, renal failure, vaginal mycosis.
  5. Possible: nervous system disorders (polyneuropathy, Gillain-Barre syndrome, psychotic reactions, convulsions, tremors, myoclonic convulsions, paresthesias, visual disturbances) as well as haematological disorders such as: anemia (including haemolytic anemia), thrombocytopenia, neutropenia (decreased number of neutrophils) in blood counts.
  6. In some people: especially with existing risk factors, ventricular arrhythmias and ECG changes (QTc prolongation) may occur.
  7. In children: possible arthropathies of the joints.

If you have noticed disturbing symptoms and suspect urinary problems, do blood and urine tests for kidney stones.
