Nobel laureates in chemistry can cure cancer

This year’s Nobel Prize winners have developed new antibiotics that bacteria cannot get used to, genetically engineered insulin, and in the future, all this will bring new treatments for some types of cancer.

Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, a British native of India and a US citizen, Thomas Staitz of Yale University and Ada Yonath of the Weizmann Institute in Israel were awarded the highest scientific award for their research on the structure and function of the ribosome – a complex complex of molecules that translates genetic information from DNA molecules.

Speaking about the application of this discovery in practice, it should be noted that many proteins are obtained using genetically engineered constructs. Knowing how the ribosome works can help you get more of this protein. Knowledge of the structure of ribosomes helps in the creation of new antibiotics.
