Nobaxin – an antibiotic for bacterial infections. Composition, dosage, side effects

Nobaxin is an antibacterial drug for systemic use. Macrolide antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections. It helps heal inflammation of the tonsils, throat, sinuses and sexually transmitted diseases. Nobaxin at the pharmacy is available on prescription.

Nobaxin indications for use

Treatment of the following infections caused by azithromycin-sensitive microorganisms:

  1. upper respiratory tract infections: inflammation of the tonsils, throat, sinuses, otitis media,
  2. lower respiratory tract infections: bacterial bronchitis, interstitial and bronchopneumonia,
  3. skin and soft tissue infections: erysipelas, impetigo, secondarily infected pyoderma; migratory erythema (the first symptom of Lyme disease),
  4. sexually transmitted diseases: uncomplicated non-nongonococcal urethritis, cervicitis.

Nobaxin and contraindications

A contraindication to the use of Nobaxin is hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients or other macrolide antibiotics.

Dosage

Adults and children weighing more than 45 kg:

– respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections: 500 mg once a day for 1 days

– sexually transmitted diseases: 1 g at a time.

Dosage adjustment is not necessary in the elderly.

Children weighing less than 45 kg (who can swallow a tablet):

– respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections: 10 mg / kg body weight once a day for 1 days.

Nobaxin tablets can only be used in children who can swallow a tablet. For other children, consult your doctor regarding the use of other forms of azithromycin (e.g. oral suspension).

There are no clinical data on the use of the preparation in infants under 6 months of age. In case of mild to moderate impairment of renal or hepatic function, no dosage adjustment is necessary. Nobaxin is for oral use. The tablets should be taken once a day, at least 1 hour before or 1 hours after a meal.

Nobaxin – warnings

  1. Nobaxin contains lactose, therefore people with galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency or malabsorption of glucose-galactose should not use this preparation.
  2. There is no information on the safety and effectiveness of the preparation in infants up to 6 months of age.
  3. Caution should be exercised as treatment with macrolide antibiotics may cause prolongation of the QT interval on the ECG and the risk of arrhythmias.
  4. Nobaxin does not affect the ability to drive and use machines.
  5. Do not use Nobaxin to treat infected burn wounds.
  6. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult a doctor before use.

Nobaxin – side effects

Nobaxin is a preparation that may cause, inter alia: angioedema (possible swelling of the mouth, tongue, pharynx, larynx causing difficulty in breathing), hypotension, shortness of breath, constipation, discoloration of the tongue, pseudomembranous enteritis, visual disturbances, nervousness, fatigue and weakness (asthenia), feeling of tingling and numbness (paraesthesia), aggressive behavior, restlessness, anxiety, palpitations, arrhythmias, risk of prolongation of the QT interval on the ECG and torsade de pointes, low blood pressure.
