No-Spa is an analgesic drug that is used not only in diseases of the biliary tract, but also in the treatment of gynecological diseases, including painful menstruation. No-Spa – the way it works

The mode of operation of No-Spy is based on the behavior of the active substance, which is drotaverine hydrochloride (Drotaverini hydrochloridum). It acts directly on smooth muscles, expanding blood vessels, and thus increasing the blood flow in tissues.

One of the most common side effects of other painkillers (e.g. papaverine), namely breathing disorders, has not been noticed while taking drotaverine.

No-Spa – drug form

On the pharmaceutical market, No-Spa is available in several forms:

1. No-Spa – tablets (40 mg); 
2. No-Spa ampoules – solution for injection (20 mg / ml); 
3. No-Spa Comfort – tabletki (40 mg); 
4. No-Spa forte – tablets (80 mg); 
5. No-Spa Max – coated tablets (80 mg).

No-Spa – drug composition

In addition to drotaverine hydrochloride, the composition of No-Spa tablets includes substances such as:

1. magnesium stearate; 
2. talk; 
3. powidon; 
4. corn starch; 
5. lactose monohydrate. 

In No-Spa ampoules we find (apart from the active substance):

1. sodu pirosiarczyn; 
2. ethanol 96%; 
3. water for injections.

No-Spa – indications

The main indication for taking No-Spy is primarily the contractile states of the embracing smooth muscles:

1. diseases of the biliary tract: cholelithiasis, cholecystitis, cholangitis, Vater’s nipple inflammation; 
2. diseases of the urinary tract: kidney stones, ureterolithiasis, cystitis, painful micturition. 

In addition, No-Spa can be taken with diseases of the digestive tract:

1. gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer; 
2. gastritis; 
3. inflammation of the intestines; 
4. colitis; 
5. spasmodic states of the cardia and pylorus of the stomach; 
6. constipation; 
7. inflammation of the pancreas. 

No-Spa – dosage

The dosage of No-Spa tablets is as follows:

1. adults should take 120-240 mg of No-Spy daily in at least 2-3 divided doses; 
2. children over 12 years of age can take a maximum of 160 mg No-Spy in 4-6 divided doses; 
3. children between 6 and 12 years of age should take a maximum of 80 mg of No-Spy in 4-6 divided doses. 

No-Spa ampoules can be administered to the patient intramuscularly, subcutaneously or intravenously. The daily dose ranges from 40 to 240 mg in 1-3 doses.

No-Spa – side effects and precautions

Precautions when using No-Spy should be observed primarily in people who suffer from hypertension, as well as in children due to the lack of detailed clinical trials. In addition, patients with hereditary galactose intolerance, lactose deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption should be careful as No-Spy contains lactose.

Taking medications does not affect the ability to drive vehicles or operate machinery, but if you notice an undesirable symptom in the form of dizziness, it is better to refrain from driving any vehicles.

No-Spa – interactions with other drugs

When dosing No-Spy, care should be taken primarily by people who are also taking levodopa. Interaction can lead to excessive muscle tremors, as well as their stiffness.

No-Spa – contraindications

Contraindications for taking No-Spy are:

1. Hypersensitivity to the active substance or any of the excipients contained in the drug; 
2. Severe heart failure (low output syndrome); 
3. Severe renal failure; 
4. Severe liver failure; 
5. Second and third degree AV block. 

No-Spa – can it be taken during pregnancy and breastfeeding?

Due to the fact that drotaverine crosses the placenta, No-Spa should not be taken during pregnancy. An exception to this rule is the benefit that outweighs the risk factors. It is absolutely forbidden to take No-Spy during labor due to the increased risk of postpartum hemorrhage. Due to the lack of clinical data on the excretion of drotaverine into breast milk, No-Spa is not recommended.

The most common side effects that have been observed after taking No-Spy include:

1. Allergic reactions; 
2. Headaches; 
3. Dizziness; 
4. Insomnia; 
5. Palpitations; 
6. Heart hypotension; 
7. Nausea; 
8. Constipation. 

No-Spa – how to store the drug?

Painkiller No-Spa should be kept out of the reach of children, where the temperature does not exceed 25 degrees C. After the expiry date, ask the pharmacist where to throw the medicine.
