From July 14, the ban will apply not only to our country, but also to 112 other states.
Recently, the American Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) made an important statement. Representatives of the organization introduced a ban on people with dogs from 113 countries, including Russia. This measure comes into force on July 14th. It will be temporary, but the timing of the end of the restrictions is not yet known.
The reason for this is canine rabies, which began to spread in some countries of the world. The center wants to preserve the health of pets, as well as their owners.
Restrictions are necessary to ensure the health and safety of dogs entering the United States and to protect the health of the country’s population from re-entry of the canine rabies virus into the United States, ”the statement said.
The ban included countries such as Georgia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, China, Ukraine, Moldova, countries in Africa, South America, the Caribbean and the Asian region.
In some cases, the authorities will be able to make an exception and allow the owner and his pet to enter the country. To do this, you need to fill out a special application at least 6 weeks before arriving in the United States. Otherwise, the dog and its owner will be sent back at their own expense.
Canine rabies was officially eradicated in the United States more than 10 years ago, but every year a number of new cases are recorded. Most of them become infected in the wild. The carriers are animals such as bats, raccoons, skunks and foxes.
Recall that in the United States, rabies vaccination is given to dogs at three months, and then a year. Adult dogs are given the vaccine every three years.
