NiQuitin MINI is used to relieve withdrawal symptoms after nicotine withdrawal associated with smoking cessation. The active substance of the preparation is nicotine. It should not be administered to children and adolescents under 12 years of age and to non-smokers. The product is in the form of lozenges and is dispensed without a prescription.

NiQuitin MINI – indications and dosage
NiQuitin MINI is a preparation taken to relieve withdrawal symptoms after stopping nicotine, related to smoking cessation.
Dosage of the preparation
NiQuitin MINI is in the form of lozenges, leave the tablet in the mouth until it dissolves, moving it from one side of the mouth to the other. The preparation should not be swallowed whole or chewed. NiQuitin MINI 4 mg tablets should be used by people who smoke more than 20 cigarettes a day, 1,5 mg tablets – people who smoke no more than 20 cigarettes a day.
- One tablet should be used. if you feel you need to smoke a cigarette, usually 1-8 tablets / day; max. 12 tablets / day for 15 weeks, then 6 tablet every 1-2 h for 4 weeks,
- then gradually reduce the number of tablets taken, stopping treatment when the number of tablets taken drops to 1-2 / day.
- After the end of treatment, the tablets may be taken if you feel like smoking a cigarette.
NiQuitin MINI and contraindications
Contraindications to the use of NiQuitin MINI are:
- hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation,
- use by children and adolescents up to 12 years of age and non-smokers.
NiQuitin MINI – warnings
- In the event of a recent heart attack, cerebrovascular accidents or cardiovascular diseases (e.g. angina pectoris including Prinzmetal’s angina, heart failure, uncontrolled hypertension, vasoconstriction, severe peripheral vascular disease, cerebral circulation disorders) be careful and consult a physician before use. In this group of patients, it is recommended to quit smoking without the aid of nicotine replacement therapy or, if necessary, to remain under close medical supervision.
- Diabetic patients undergoing nicotine replacement therapy should monitor their blood glucose (sugar) levels more frequently than usual, since nicotine release of catecholamines may affect carbohydrate metabolism.
- Taking NiQuitin MINI may increase the susceptibility to the occurrence of angioedema and urticaria (allergy sufferers should remember this).
- A doctor should be consulted before using the product in the presence of: gastric or duodenal ulcer; esophagitis; overactive thyroid gland; pheochromocytoma; moderately or severely impaired liver or kidney function.
- In patients with active oesophagitis, oropharyngitis, gastritis or peptic ulcer, NiQuitin MINI may worsen symptoms.
- The doses of nicotine contained in the preparation may pose a threat to the health of young children and even cause their death. Products containing nicotine should not be kept within easy reach of children.
- When quitting smoking, you should not take NiQuitin MINI and chewing gum containing nicotine interchangeably, due to the different availability of nicotine in these products.
- Women who are pregnant or are trying to conceive should try to quit nicotine without the aid of nicotine replacement therapy. If this attempt is unsuccessful, consult a physician before using the preparation during pregnancy or breastfeeding, who will assess the risk-benefit ratio.
- Nicotine (in any form) taken during pregnancy has a detrimental effect on both the mother and the baby.
- During pregnancy, nicotine replacement therapy should not be used for longer than 2-3 months.
- There is no information on the effect of the product on the ability to drive vehicles and operate machinery, however, quitting nicotine may result in impairment of psychophysical fitness.
NiQuitin MINI with other drugs
- Inform your doctor about all recently taken preparations, including those sold without a prescription.
- Quitting smoking with or without the use of nicotine replacement therapy may result in a change in the dosage of some drugs taken (after stopping smoking, metabolism may slow down and, consequently, the concentration of some drugs in the blood may increase),
- There is a likelihood of nicotine potentiating the haemodynamic effects of adenosine.
NiQuitin MINI – side effects
Treatment with NiQuitin MINI preparation may cause: sleep problems, nervousness, increased appetite, abnormal blood clotting and bleeding (from the gums, from the nose), shortness of breath, pharyngitis, cough, asthma, upper respiratory tract infections, nasal congestion, constipation, increased sweating, joint and / or muscle pain , flu-like symptoms, weakness, nausea, vomiting, hiccups, heartburn, mouth ulcers, diarrhea, flatulence, headache, dizziness, discomfort, tremors, indigestion, peptic ulcer, gastroesophageal reflux, hiatal hernia, oesophagitis, dryness in the mouth, toothache, jaw pain, erythema, hives, palpitations, fast heart beat.
Some of the symptoms listed above may be caused by stopping smoking.
