Nimesulide or nimesil is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. It has an analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic effect. The active substance is nimesulide. The measure is only available on prescription. Nimesulide can be purchased in a pack of 30 sachets and 9 sachets. What does the dosage look like? Does Nimesulide cause side effects?

Nimesulide can be a so-called second line drug. A physician should decide on the intake and dosage of the drug in each case. In general, the preparation is indicated for the treatment of acute pain that does not disappear after taking an analgesic, for example, it can be used by women who suffer from dysmenorrhea.

Nimesulide – how it works

The active substance is nimesulide. It is the only drug in the sulfoanilide class. Nimesulide not only has an anti-inflammatory effect, but also has an antipyretic and analgesic effect. Its task is to counteract the production of substances responsible for the development of inflammation. The drug is not antimicrobial. Nimesulide is very well and relatively quickly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. The drug is administered to patients who suffer from acute pain, as the substances contained in the drug act to relieve pain very quickly, and in some cases the effects are visible already 15 minutes after taking the drug. As for the maximum concentration in the blood, it is obtained in the range of 2 – 3 hours after administration of the drug. Unfortunately, Nimesulide crosses the placenta, therefore it is not recommended for pregnant women, the attending physician should assess the risk and necessity of administering the drug to the pregnant woman.

Nimesulide – contraindications

Unfortunately, there are cases where there are clear indications for the use of the drug, but unfortunately it cannot be used by the patient. There can be many reasons for the impossibility of administering the agent, in which cases it is completely impossible, and in which cases should be exercised with extreme caution?

  1. Nimesulide cannot be used in people who are allergic to acetylsalicylic acid or other anti-inflammatory or analgesic drugs, for example ibufen. Hypersensitivity to the ingredients of this type of agents may be manifested by: increased asthma attacks, allergic rhinitis, bronchospasm, skin reactions, for example urticaria.
  2. The drug can not be used by people who have noticed weakness or even liver damage as a result of using the preparation.
  3. The agent should not be taken by people diagnosed with gastric or duodenal ulcer disease.
  4. Nimesulide cannot be a drug for people who have problems with the digestive system.
  5. Other contraindications to the use of the drug are: severe liver and kidney dysfunction, severe bleeding from cerebral vessels, circulatory failure.
  6. The drug should not be assigned to pregnant women, and especially up to the 12th week of pregnancy, it is also not recommended for women who are breastfeeding.
  7. Nimesulide should not be used in case of high fever or flu-like symptoms.
