Nimesil is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent. Niemesil is included in the treatment as an analgesic when other medicinal substances do not work. It is usually used in the case of dysmenorrhea or chronic pain accompanying, for example, ulcers. Unfortunately, Nimesil has quite a few side effects.
Nimesil – the composition of the drug
Nimesulide is an active ingredient contained in Nimesil. Due to its chemical structure, it is classified as a sulfonamide. it works by blocking cyclooxygenase, which is involved in transmitting information in cells. Nimesulide has anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic effects.
Nimesil – action
The drug has an analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory effect. It is well absorbed from the digestive tract, thanks to which the first effects are felt as early as 15 minutes after taking the product. However, the agent reaches its highest concentration in the blood only 2-3 hours after administration. Keep this in mind while waiting for the moment when Nimesil will take effect.
Nimesil – indications
Nimesil is not usually used as an antipyretic and analgesic drug in acute and painful menstruation. This is because it has a number of side effects. It should also never be chosen as the first drug. Taking Nimesil should be consulted with a doctor.
If you need a prescription for a drug, make an appointment and the doctor will remotely prescribe or extend the e-prescription online. Use the drug as directed.
Nimesil – dosage
Nimesil is taken in the form of granules, from which an oral suspension is prepared for oral consumption. Do not exceed the recommended dose of Nimesil, because not only will it not improve its effectiveness, but it may harm your life or health. If you have any questions, please consult your doctor. The drug should be taken after meals and not used for more than 15 days. Attention! Children under 12 years of age should not use the drug. Patients with mild renal impairment whose creatinine clearance is 30-80 ml / min do not need to adjust the dose. However, patients who suffer from severe kidney disorders should absolutely not take Nimesil.
Adults and adolescents after the age of 12: 100 mg twice a day.
Nimesil – contraindications
- Of course, Nimesil cannot be used in case of allergy to its active ingredient, i.e. nimesulide.
- People who are allergic or hypersensitive to aspirin, ibuprofen or ketoprofen should also not take it.
- An absolute contraindication to the use of the agent is liver damage or taking other substances that may be harmful to it. This also applies to alcohol and drugs.
- Nimesil cannot be taken by people suffering from ulcers in any part of the gastrointestinal tract. Also, diseases with bleeding disqualify from taking the drug.
- The drug can be very harmful to people with chronic kidney disease.
- It cannot be taken also when there is a suspicion of influenza.
- Nimesil is dangerous to the fetus when it is taken in the third trimester of pregnancy.
- It cannot be taken by breastfeeding women and children under 12 years of age.
Nimesil and pregnancy and the period of breastfeeding
Pregnant women must remember that during this period it is not allowed to take medications without consulting a doctor!
The doctor is obliged to inform pregnant and lactating women about any risks and benefits of using the preparation. Inform your prescription doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Women in the third trimester of pregnancy cannot take the drug, while in women in the first and second trimester of pregnancy and those planning a child, taking Nimesil is allowed only if the doctor deems it necessary. In this case, the drug should be taken for the shortest possible time (the lowest dose possible). Breastfeeding women must not use the drug.
Nimesil – caution
- If symptoms persist, consult a physician.
- Using a low dose for the shortest possible time reduces the risk of side effects.
- Patients should not alter the dosage themselves.
- Other painkillers should not be taken at the same time.
- Nimesil can sometimes cause liver reactions which, in rare cases, lead to death.
- Stop taking Nimesil immediately and see a doctor if you develop symptoms suggesting liver damage, e.g. abdominal pain, vomiting, nausea, anorexia, dark urine. Also, poor liver function tests suggest discontinuation of the treatment.
- When you develop a fever or other flu-like symptoms, stop using the preparation and see a doctor.
- Tell your doctor if you have ever had gastrointestinal bleeding (if so: stop taking Nimesil immediately).
- Tell your prescribing physician if you have ever had a stomach ulcer and / or duodenal ulcer.
- Nimesil may be associated with a deterioration in kidney function.
- Caution should be exercised in patients who suffer from renal or cardiac dysfunction.
- The elderly are prone to side effects (especially gastrointestinal bleeding) – which can even lead to death. Also, the dysfunction of the heart, kidneys and liver is increased in this group of patients.
- Nimesil may interfere with the function of platelets and thus prolong bleeding time.
- Caution should be exercised in people struggling with hypertension, edema, congestive heart failure. Such patients should be under constant medical observation.
- Taking the drug for a long time may lead to a heart attack or stroke. Therefore, patients with hypertension, heart failure or diseases of the cardiovascular system should exercise caution and consult a doctor.
- Taking Nimesil can lead to skin reactions, the consequence of which can even be death. Stevens-Johnson syndrome, exfoliative dermatitis, and toxic epidermal necrolysis may occur. Such reactions often occur in the first month of using the drug (but not always).
- Nimesil should not be used again if you develop skin reactions.
- Nimesil may mask the symptoms of infection, if you suspect you have an infection, see a doctor immediately.
- The preparation is not antimicrobial.
- The drug may affect female fertility, so women planning pregnancy should not take it.
- Patients with hereditary problems of fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency should not use the preparation because it contains sucrose.
- Also, diabetics should take into account the sucrose content of the drug.
- Although there is no information that Nimesil affects the ability to drive and use machines, the side effects resulting from its use (drowsiness, dizziness) may affect this.
Nimesil with other drugs
With what other preparations should Nimesil not be used?
- Acetylsalicylic acid or other NSAIDs: risk of gastrointestinal ulceration and bleeding.
- Furosemide: its effect may be reduced and the risk of kidney problems may be impaired. Particular caution should be exercised in patients at risk of renal or hepatic failure.
- Anticoagulants, such as warfarin and other anticoagulants, or with acetylsalicylic acid: Increased possibility of bleeding.
- Agents that inhibit platelet aggregation, such as e.g. ticlopidine: greater possibility of bleeding.
- Lithium: possible increase in the toxicity of lithium.
- Corticosteroids or serotonin reuptake inhibitors: Increased likelihood of side effects including gastrointestinal bleeding.
- Methotrexate: possible intensification of its toxic effects, poisoning sometimes.
- Diuretics and antihypertensive drugs, including angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors, angiotensin antagonists: reduced efficacy, greater risk of renal dysfunction (especially in the elderly, adequate hydration and monitoring of renal function should be carried out).
