Well-being during a pandemic. Disturbing research results

75 percent of respondents assessed the epidemic as a stressful event and it was the spread of the coronavirus that was the most frequently indicated factor causing stress – results from the research carried out recently by a team led by dr hab. Małgorzata Dragan from the Faculty of Psychology at the University of Warsaw, which concerned mental health during the coronavirus pandemic. 66,3 percent of the respondents declared that they work remotely. According to the preliminary report, the professional situation turned out to be the main significant stressor accompanying the pandemic. 51 percent reported symptoms indicating a breakdown in the functioning and performance of daily duties, 38% – severe depressive symptoms, and 62 percent of study participants – growing symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder, consisting in constant feeling of it or excessive worry – significantly affecting many areas of everyday life. A significant percentage of respondents, as much as 37%, indicated symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder.
