Night awakenings: what diseases they warn us about

In Chinese medicine, sleep interruption is a symptom of a negative emotional state that can affect physical health. To decipher body signals, you need to pay attention to the time you wake up. In this article, you will find exercises that will help correct the situation.

In Chinese medicine, emotions are believed to be directly related to the health of the body. For example, the emotion of sadness changes the posture in such a way (as if it turns the chest forward, closes it) that it becomes more difficult for the lungs to function. They do not have enough space, due to which the blood supply to the lungs worsens, so a sad person is more likely to fall ill with various inflammatory processes in the respiratory tract.

In Western medicine, such relationships are studied within the framework of psychosomatic medicine. For example, it has been proven that a person who is prone to regular outbursts of anger is more likely to suffer from stomach diseases.

Based on centuries-old observations in Chinese medicine, a system of diagnostics and treatment recommendations has been developed: how to notice certain health disorders through observation of emotions and correct the emotional background in order to protect oneself from illness.

23:00 to 1:00 – disappointment

The emotion of disappointment in the Eastern tradition is associated with the health of the gallbladder. And the work of each organ, in turn, is connected with time. At night, the brain is engaged in the healing of all organs and systems: we sleep, and without our volitional participation, the autonomic nervous system has the opportunity to restore everything that was broken, overworked, tired during the day. The time of active night recovery of the gallbladder falls on the period of plus or minus midnight.

If at this time a person cannot fall asleep or wakes up, this is a signal that he sees reasons for disappointment in his life. These thoughts interfere with healthy sleep, and against the background of this emotion, the gallbladder suffers. Or vice versa: there is already a disease of the gallbladder, and because of this, the emotion of disappointment develops. Such a situation is possible. Experiences will recede if the gallbladder is cured. You can understand where the cause is and where the consequences are with the help of a Chinese medicine doctor. What to do if sleep is disturbed, and the necessary specialist is not at hand?

An exercise

In Chinese medicine, there is the concept of “qi” – the vital energy that circulates through the body. If we experience, the energy goes up. To calm emotions, it must be lowered down into the abdomen.

How to do it? Imagine that there is a flow inside – alive, radiant, flowing – and it follows your hands. (Actually, energy follows attention, and hands are the best way to attract and focus attention.) Half-sitting in bed, place your hands in front of your face and imagine yourself taking this energy and, lowering your hands, drag it down. Slowly and carefully: hands down, from the face along the body to the stomach, and the energy down. Repeat this movement several times – as many as necessary to feel sleepy.

1:00 to 3:00 – anger

A person who wakes up against his will from 1 to 3 in the morning, wants to sleep, but cannot sleep, is prone to anger. This emotion is connected with the state of the liver.

Again, the reason may lie in the emotion itself (which will sooner or later affect the health of the liver), and in one or another liver disease that generates anger. You can understand with the help of Chinese doctors. In the meantime, here’s an exercise.

An exercise

To fall asleep in the period from 1:00 to 3:00, it is recommended to drink cool water, calm the fire of anger. And do a relaxation practice, for example, a qigong complex for the Xinseng spine.

Execution takes 15 minutes, helps to lower the energy down, reduce the intensity of passions and relax the body so that it wants to sleep. After the practice is done, go to bed, but without gadgets, books or any other distractions. For people with especially serious, almost clinical insomnia, there is a detailed technique. As you lie down in bed, promise yourself, “If I can’t fall asleep in 15 minutes, I will get up and repeat the practice.” Among those whom I helped to cope with insomnia, there was not one who could go through the cycle more than twice. At most after the second repetition, you will sleep like a baby.

3:00 to 5:00 – sadness

The emotion of sadness is linked to lung health. Therefore, a person who regularly wakes up from 3:00 to 5:00 in the morning can be safely recommended to take up the improvement of the lungs: quit smoking (if he smokes) and start swimming (if there are no contraindications). Plus, of course, exercises to find active relaxation – for example, Xinseng, qigong for the spine, which helps to relax the chest and establish deeper, more even, correct breathing.

As soon as the chest opens, a person begins to “breathe deeply”, so immediately there are fewer reasons for sadness or bouts of sadness begin to pass easier. What to do at night, when there is no pool, no smoking?

An exercise

Sit on a chair, lean on the back, tilt your head back slightly and spread your arms to the sides. Take a few breaths in this position. Track: what else can be relaxed in this position so that the body breathes easier and more freely. As relaxation and breathing deepen, drowsiness will roll in – give in to it and go to bed.

If you suddenly become really sad at night, this is an occasion (contrary to the recommendations of nutritionists!) To eat something sweet that will help relieve nervous tension. Before doing the exercise, please yourself with some sweet and healthy dried fruit, then breathe, and after that your sleep will be serene.
