Nicorette Classic Gum, Nicorette Freshmint Gum is used to treat tobacco addiction by reducing craving and withdrawal symptoms that occur after quitting smoking. The active substance of the preparation is nicotine. The measure is in the form of over-the-counter life gums.

Nicorette Classic Gum, Nicorette Freshmint Gum – indications and dosage
Nicorette Classic Gum, Nicorette Freshmint Gum are chewing gums recommended:
- in the treatment of tobacco addiction by reducing nicotine craving,
- to treat withdrawal symptoms that occur when you stop smoking.
Application of the preparation
Nicorette Classic Gum, Nicorette Freshmint Gum are chewing gums and should be taken orally. It is not recommended to use the preparation for more than 12 months.
Adults. Chew slowly for 30 minutes. The starting dose depends on the severity of the addiction.
- In smokers <20 cigarettes / day, initially 2 mg,
- in smokers> 20 cigarettes / day – 4 mg; typically 8-12 gums / d, max. 24 gums / d.
- After 3 months of using a constant number of gums, start reducing their number.
- Discontinue treatment when 1-2 gums / d are used.
If you want:
reduce smoking: chew gum when you want to smoke a cigarette. After 6 weeks, the number of cigarettes smoked a day should decrease. An attempt to quit smoking should be made no later than 6 months after starting treatment.
you are in temporary abstinence: You should chew gum when you want to smoke a cigarette, and it is impossible at the moment. It is not recommended to use gums regularly for more than 12 months.

Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients of the preparation is a contraindication to the use of Nicorette Classic Gum and Nicorette Freshmint Gum.

- When treating tobacco dependence, it is recommended to use support groups that can greatly facilitate the successful quitting process.
- Consult your doctor before using the preparation in the case of: recent stroke or myocardial infarction; angina pectoris; persistent indigestion or chest pain; arterial hypertension; gastric or duodenal ulcer; overactive thyroid gland; diabetes (lower doses of insulin may be required after stopping smoking); pheochromocytoma of the adrenal gland; impaired liver or kidney function.
- Nicorette FreshMint Gum contains butylated hydroxytoluene, which may irritate the mucosa, and xylitol, which may have a laxative effect.
- The sorbitol in Nicorette Classic Gum causes gastric irritation and diarrhea.
- People under 18 should not use the preparation without consulting a doctor. There are limited safety and efficacy data in this age group.
- Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult a doctor before taking the drug. To avoid any risk to the baby, the preparation should be taken immediately after breastfeeding.
- There is no information on the effect of the preparation on the ability to drive and use machines.

- It is recommended to inform the physician about all the recently taken drugs, even those sold without a prescription.
- Stopping smoking, with or without nicotine replacement therapy, may require changes in the dosage of some medications you are taking.
- Consult your doctor before using the preparation if you are taking medications such as: imipramine, clomipramine, fluvoxamine (drugs used in depression); clozapine, olanzapine (medicines for schizophrenia); theophylline (a medicine used in bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchitis); tacrine (a medicine for Alzheimer’s disease); ropinirole (a medicine for Parkinson’s disease); flecainide (a medicine for abnormal heart rhythms); pentazocine (a pain reliever); taurine; insulin.
Nicorette Classic Gum, Nicorette Freshmint Gum – side effects
Nicotine therapy with Nicorette Classic Gum and Nicorette Freshmint Gum preparations may cause the following side effects: headache and dizziness, discomfort, nausea, vomiting, hiccups, mouth pain, sore throat, pain in the jaw muscles, increased salivation, skin changes (erythema, urticaria), palpitations (very rare: transient atrial fibrillation).
- Some symptoms may be associated with those withdrawal symptoms when you stop smoking, e.g. dizziness, headache, insomnia. Mouth ulcers that appear may occur in connection with stopping smoking; their cause is unknown.
- Allergic reactions including angioedema may occasionally occur.
- The chewing gum can stick and in some cases damage dentures.
