Niche selective perfume
Niche or selective perfume – luxury or individuality? The editorial staff of Woman’s Day found out from the famous representative of the French perfumery elite Serge Lutens, why a niche perfume is so expensive and exclusive.
Selective – in translation, selected, or niche, perfumery is an exclusive product that is intended for a narrow circle of connoisseurs. Manufacturers of selective fragrances hardly advertise their products and present them only in some stores.
Why are niche fragrances so expensive?
The cost of niche fragrances in most cases is dictated by the natural components from which the fragrances are created. You need to understand that we are always limited in the harvest of certain flowers and plants.
Sometimes it happens that we reserve the absolutes and essences we need for several years in advance, and the ready-made fragrance formula can lie in your desk drawer for years until you are lucky enough to get the necessary components. Moreover, sometimes I simply cannot do without rare, precious ingredients that fall into the category of orpur (best harvest of the best year).
The aroma with such a component becomes unique, leaving an unforgettable trail. Such components are put up for auction, and you have to compete with other applicants for the right to own these precious absolutes!
If you approach the creation of a fragrance as a work of art, if the fragrance is for you a dream come true and the highest emotional pleasure, then you are unlikely to settle for less if you need the best!
Where can you buy an exclusive scent?
It is also important to emphasize that when it comes to selective fragrances, exclusive distribution is always meant. Our production is very limited, laboratories and factories are small.
Everyone knows the fact that the more bottles are produced, the cheaper one bottle is in production. The production of a niche scent always involves a lot of manual labor, which is expensive for the manufacturer.
How are the “precious” fragrances stored?
And of course, unique components need protection. The simplicity and severity of the shape of selective vials can sometimes be deceiving.
Here, either the latest technologies (for example, “space” glass) or old recipes for the production of black glass come to the rescue (only the bottles made of such glass can be entrusted with the fragrances from my collection “The Golden Section”). These nuances also have to be taken into account if you work with natural ingredients.
Of course, as a result of all these difficulties, we get a high price for a niche fragrance, but true connoisseurs of perfumery benefit from this, who become owners of rare fragrances and get the advantage of wearing something not massive, exclusive, unique.
