The maternity unit in Lewis County, New York this month suspends delivering deliveries after the resignation of some staff who chose to dismiss rather than undergo mandatory COVID-19 immunization.
At least six of the staff in the maternity ward have left their jobs. In total, 165 medical staff are unvaccinated in the entire hospital, or about 27 percent of the entire staff.
The remaining employees say that they are not able to fill the shifts, the director of the hospital Gerald Cayer informed journalists.
“The number of cancellations received leaves us with nothing but to hold the births at Lewis County General Hospital. I hope the New York State Department of Health will work with us to stop maternity services and not close the maternity unit, »added Cayer.
