During the New Year’s Eve party, we often forget that drunk alcohol can be disastrous for our figure. In order not to limit yourself to a glass of champagne during this special night, prepare a drink in a slimmed-down version.
New year – new goal
What to do with food after Christmas?
How much calories do popular spirits have?
It would seem that drunk alcohol does not provide the body with additional calories. Nothing could be more wrong! In addition, it also stimulates the appetite, which makes us more likely to reach for the snacks on the New Year’s Eve table. By drinking one beer, we will consume 245 additional calories, a glass of dry red wine has 105 of them, while a glass of vodka is 55 kcal. You cannot forget about champagne, which is an inseparable element of this special night. One glass is 70 kcal.
What to give up?
If you want to drink alcohol or mix it with another drink, it is worth considering what you pour into the glass. Avoid carbonated fruit drinks and cola drinks. The best choice is water with lemon and mint, or possibly XNUMX% fruit juices in moderate amounts. It is also worth avoiding ready-made drinks sold in bottles, which tempt with color and sophisticated packaging. They often contain a large addition of syrups, sugar and preservatives.
The most caloric drinks
The more colorful and sweet the drink is served, the more caloric it is. Bartenders often use syrups composed mainly of sugar and dyes. An example would be Blue Hawaiian to which Blue Curacao syrup is added. One of the ingredients of this drink is also coconut cream with which we will provide ourselves with an additional portion of fat. The same will be the case with the White Russian drink, to which cream and coffee liqueur are added. A serving of such a drink can be up to 500 kcal. The Mudslide drink also contains ice cream and chocolate glaze, which makes it more like a dessert. The popular Margarita is also high in calories. It owes it to the addition of a high-percentage liqueur made of various kinds of oranges, the triple sec type. The calorific value of colored drinks can only be estimated. Most often it depends on the amount of additives used and the bartender’s ingenuity.
Modify the recipes
When preparing drinks ourselves, we can fully control the ingredients added to them. However, it is worth taking moderation in their consumption and try to sip the drink in small portions for a long time. Below are some suggestions:
- Mojito in which we replace the sweet drink with sparkling water with the addition of mint, lime, a little sugar and rum has about 120 kcal
- Bloody Mary consisting of vodka, tomato juice and spicy spices in one serving contains 80 kcal
- A glass of vodka with sparkling water, citrus slices and fresh mint leaves is 100 kcal
- A glass of dry red wine will provide us with 105 kcal
- A gin with an unsweetened tonic will have about 170 kcal
- If we add fresh fruit juice to a glass of vodka in exchange for a sweetened, carbonated drink, the calorific value of one drink will be 145 kcal
- Drink Mimoza, or champagne with the addition of orange juice, contains 130 kcal in one glass
What else is worth remembering?
If you do not know the exact recipe of the drink you are ordering, ask the bartender to describe it for you. You can also order one of the drinks suggested above. Above all, avoid ready-made drinks in bottles, the composition of which you are not sure. It is also very important to exercise moderation, thanks to which you can fully enjoy the New Year’s Eve celebration, also during the diet.
