COVID-19 treatment – new WHO recommendations
The World Health Organization has published new recommendations on how to deal with patients diagnosed with COVID-19. In total, there are five new guidelines, the most important of which are:
- recommendation of the use of pulse oximeters in patients with COVID-19 who are not hospitalized with appropriate education in the use of
- Recommend awake prone positioning in patients with severe COVID-19 symptoms who are hospitalized and require supplemental oxygen or non-invasive ventilation
- recommendation to use lower doses of anticoagulants in patients hospitalized due to COVID-19 in antithrombotic prevention. “Higher doses can lead to other health problems,” WHO spokeswoman Margaret Harris explained.

The other two WHO recommendations concern patient preferences and local rules when healthcare professionals make decisions about treatment and admission to hospitals, and use existing care packages and adapt them to local conditions.
