New research by scientists will upset coffee drinkers

If you are one of those who think bad news needs to be reported right away, you will understand us. We decided to do without lengthy prefaces. But, let’s say right away, they were surprised by this news.

It’s common to associate coffee with creativity. For example, creative people often drink coffee, thereby “evoking” inspiration. They go for coffee to come up with a creative solution to some problem. But a new study by American scientists from the University of Arkansas negates such a reputation for this drink.

According to the culinary publication kedem.ru, the study showed that coffee does not affect creativity in any way. But where there is bad news, there is often good news!

Scientists have investigated the effect of coffee on 2 types of thinking: convergent and divergent thinking.

Convergent thinking associated with the search for a specific solution to the problem, based on the already existing knowledge (the correct answer),

Divergent thinking responsible for the creative approach to problem solving and generating new ideas.

As a result of the study, it was proved that coffee improves the ability to solve problems that require increased attention and concentration, that is, it has an effect on convergent thinking and does not have an effect on divergent thinking.

So, during the experiment, 80 volunteers received either 200 mg of caffeine, which is equivalent to one strong cup of coffee, or a placebo. And coffee has been found to improve convergent thinking exclusively without having any significant effect on divergent thinking.

According to the researchers, coffee also did not affect working memory in any way, but after drinking it, the subjects noted an improvement in mood.

Recall that earlier we talked about the danger of unfiltered coffee, and also shared a recipe for trendy fluffy coffee.
