50 patients a day will be able to see the Radiation Therapy Center in Kalisz. The first of them will be able to be treated there probably from September 1 this year. The construction of the center has been completed and the facility is being equipped.
The Radiotherapy Center was established in the area that used to belong to the Provincial Complex Hospital in Kalisz. It covers medical care of patients with oncological diseases, treated with radioactive radiation and chemotherapy. Until now, they had to use the Greater Poland Cancer Center in Poznań. The Radiation Therapy Center in Kalisz will be a branch of the Center.
As the deputy director for treatment of the Greater Poland Cancer Center Józef Mazurczak said in an interview with PAP, it is a great help for patients from the vicinity of Kalisz. We are glad that they will soon be able to use this center, because now they have to travel to Poznań, sometimes even every day, for 150 km of irradiation.
The two-story building will house clinics, a diagnostic section with examination rooms, social and administrative rooms and a hostel for patients.
In addition, the facility has two rooms for radiotherapy of patients, each with an area of 70 square meters. Such a room is to protect the users of the facility against radioactive radiation used during treatment.
The facility is currently being equipped. We are at the stage of purchasing devices of the same class as in the Center in Poznań – emphasized Mazurczak.
Skańska SA started construction works in May 2012. The area of the facility is over 4 thousand square meters. sq m. The cost of its construction and equipment exceeds PLN 22 million. The investment is co-financed by the Marshal’s Office of the Wielkopolska Region and the Greater Poland Cancer Center.
It is planned to establish a branch of the Greater Poland Cancer Center also in Piła, Konin and Leszno. (PAP)
