Despite the prejudice associated with the number 13 and the lack of major changes, the 2021 iPhone received a “devil” number. Apple decided to present their offspring as a full-fledged, and not just an improvement on the last year’s model (as was the case with the iPhone 5s and 6s). Apparently, this policy will continue in the future.

An interesting fact: according to a survey of third-party marketers among users in the United States, 13% of respondents did not want to see the number 18,3 in the name of the new iPhone. They believed that this number was “unlucky” and could attract trouble. Among the replacement options proposed by users, there were quite unusual ones – iPhone 21/2021, the aforementioned iPhone 12S or iPhone 14¹.

The smartphone was introduced on Tuesday, September 14, 2021. At the presentation, they explained that in stores around the world, including in Our Country, the iPhone 13 will begin to appear from September 24th. There are no delays due to the lack of electronic components of the smartphone or increased demand.

In total, four models of smartphones were presented in the 2021 line – iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Almost all smartphone manufacturers increase the cost of devices every year, but Apple made an exception. The price of the most affordable iPhone 13 2021 with 129 gigabytes of memory in Our Country is already 79 rubles (the same as the iPhone 990 with 12 gigabytes at the start of sales).

The compact mini version will cost buyers in Our Country 69 rubles.

Prices for the most advanced iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max in Our Country will start at 99 and 990 rubles, respectively.

Despite the wishes of Apple fans, the phenomenon of 120Hz screens in all iPhone 13 models did not happen.

The two most affordable models without the Pro prefix were left to be content with not the newest 60 Hz OLED screens, on which the image does not seem so smooth. However, not everything is so sad. With iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini, the display is up to a third brighter and easier to work with in bright sunlight. In HDR mode (when viewing photos or videos), the display becomes an order of magnitude brighter.

Two more expensive iPhone 13 Pro models received energy-intensive LTPO-OLED displays, which insiders previously spoke about. Also in such screens there is a Promotion system, which changes the smoothness of the display update depending on the running application. In games, the screen refresh rate can increase to 120 Hz, and while reading books, decrease by 10 times. This is done to conserve battery power.

Chassis

Ceramic Shield protection was introduced as one of the main changes to the iPhone 13 line of casings. A durable new coating will protect the front of smartphones from drops and dirt according to IP68 standards. 

The information from insiders about the change in the size of the upper “bangs” with the speaker and front sensors was also confirmed. It has already been done by 20%, leaving more usable space directly under the smartphone screen itself.

The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini are available in gold, blue, black, white, and black. The smartphone is still made of aircraft-grade aluminum.

The iPhone 13 Pro line is distinguished by premium materials – these smartphones are made of surgical steel. Four options are available in grey, gold, white and blue.

Processor

The 2021 iPhone lineup received an updated Apple Bionic A15 processor built on a five-millimeter architecture. During the presentation, Apple said that competitors will not be able to match the performance of their new six-core processor for several more years. 

Four cores in it are responsible for tasks that require low power, and two more for greater performance operate at high frequencies. Also, the Bionic A15 has a built-in quad-core video core. In the iPhone 13 Pro series, the smartphone will receive an even more powerful five-core graphics processor. It will allow you to process high-quality video directly on your phone. 

Apple’s new processor has 15 billion transistors and is 50% more powerful than other processors. Such performance is needed not only for games, but for daily tasks. For example, while processing commands for Siri or when building a travel route on a smartphone.

Of course, the new “core” supports the iPhone 13 modem in 5G networks. By the way, this year Apple plans to increase the production of current 5G smartphones from 39% to 75%.².

Memory

Despite the ubiquitous availability of cloud storage, Apple decided to increase the maximum amount of memory of the new iPhones up to 1 TB at once. Of course, this amount of memory can only be found in the most “charged” versions of Pro and Pro Max. In more affordable versions, internal storage sizes will start at 128 GB.

If we talk about the amount of RAM, then there are no cardinal changes here. New smartphones received from 4 to 6 GB of DDR5 memory – this is enough even for top models due to system optimization.

Communications

During the presentation, it was announced that the iPhone 13 will be able to work in new 5G frequencies for Apple. Rumors about Apple’s complete rejection of wired connections in iPhone smartphones have not been confirmed. The device can still be charged and synced via the lightning connector. By the way, Magsafe wireless charging from the iPhone 13 has not disappeared anywhere.

Camera

When you first look at the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini, the changes in the location of the main cameras are striking. Now they are installed diagonally, and a microphone and a flashlight LED are placed opposite them. 

The cameras of the iPhone 13 have traditionally not been improved by increasing the number of megapixels. All models of the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini began to install matrices that capture 50% more light than previous models. Thanks to this and post-processing technologies, the pictures are bright, bright and sharp. 

Also, in more affordable models, as predicted by insiders, a full-fledged optical stabilization of the main camera matrix has appeared. This technology protects photos from “blurring” in dark shooting conditions and makes the video recorded on a smartphone smooth. 

Fans of shooting mobile video will appreciate the new “Cinema Effect” mode. It overlays special filters that make the picture more “professional”, and the focus smoothly switches to objects that appear in the frame.

The update of the cameras of the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max during the presentation of Apple was called one of the largest. Conceptually, the set of cameras has not changed – telephoto, wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle lens. The developers have increased the aperture ratio of wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle optics to f / 1.5 and f / 1.8, respectively, and also began to use larger sensors. 

The use of new matrices has significantly improved the ability to macro photography in the iPhone 13 Pro – now it has become even more interesting to photograph flowers or insects. In addition, Apple has updated the photo post-processing software in all iPhone 13 models. Users will be able to independently choose the “photo styles” in which the smartphone will work. Similar algorithms are used in image processing systems on a PC.

Battery

Apple developers during the presentation of the iPhone 13 assured that new smartphones will work longer despite improvements in the technical part of the devices. In particular, in normal use, the iPhone 13 should “outlive” the iPhone 12 by as much as 2,5 hours. The iPhone 13 Pro will increase battery life by 1,5 hours compared to last year’s model. Such figures were achieved by the American company due to the energy-efficient A15 Bionic processor and optimization of the entire system.
