“New” floor lamp with your own hands

A floor lamp is a very convenient thing with a clearly defined function: to illuminate the space near an armchair, sofa or bed. And next to it there will never be a superfluous small comfortable bedside table. What if you combine it with a floor lamp?

For work we need:

  • bedside table “Corras” (IKEA),
  • baluster, lampshade,
  • decoupage and carpentry glue,
  • sculptural mass,
  • suspension cord, electric plug,
  • dark and light purple acrylic paint,
  • brushes, circular saw.

  • Photo 1. A groove is made in the baluster using a circular saw, the thickness of which is slightly greater than the thickness of the electrical cord.
  • Photo 2-3. An electric cord is placed in the groove, after which the recess is filled in layers with a sculptural mass.
  • Photo 4. The baluster is painted light purple.

  • Photo 5. Outside, the frame of the bedside table is painted in a dark purple color, from the inside – in light purple, to match the baluster-base.
  • Photo 6. An electrical cord is threaded through the hole. The baluster is fixed on the surface of the bedside table using wood glue. Then a plug is connected to the wire.
  • Photo 7. In the center of the top of the bedside table, a hole is made for the electrical cord. The diameter of the hole should be slightly larger than the wire.
  • Photo 8. The fabric is cut according to the size of the lampshade, taking into account the allowances for the hem. Decoupage glue is applied to the surface of the lampshade and the fabric is fixed.
