The most summery tapas of the orange coast return to be tasted with the most beachy footwear, some flip-flops.
The next days from September 1 to 7, the eleventh edition of the Gastronomica route of the town of Peñíscola, commonly known as the Chanclas y Tapas Route.
As in the previous editions of tapas & flip flops, the local establishments will innovate and offer visitors to the town a couple of gastronomic proposals by establishments.
A total of 14 hotel establishments will present 28 ingenious and above all tasty tapas to the competition and offer to the clients of the premises, to generate a relaxed and festive atmosphere during the week of celebrations.
Restaurants, bars and hotels They already heat stoves, to offer a portion plus a drink, (soft drink, beer or wine) for the fixed price of three euros.
The Pagos de Híbera winery, in Tarragona, acts as the official sponsor of the event, and as the main novelty of this year’s edition is the special pairing that has been prepared with two of its varietals, Modernista Blanco and Modernista Tinto.
Flip-flops have a prize
The best tapas served in the contest will be chosen jointly by the clients of the hospitality establishments who consume the bites, and by the professional jury formed for the occasion, who will evaluate them with five different criteria:
- Taste (flavor, texture, point and serving temperature)
- Visual (appearance and aesthetics in design and assembly)
- Use of raw materials (prioritizing quality, freshness, and seasonal products and proximity)
- Culinary technique (preparation, textures, contrasts)
- Originality (application of novel techniques in the elaboration).
The prize for the winner will be 500 euros, and along with this will also be awarded prizes for the best customer service, the best pairing and the special mention given by the regional media.
Apart from the awards for the Tapas, more than 500 prizes will be distributed, ranging from stays in hotels in the town, spa passes, tickets to the castle, boardwalks in the swallow or invitations to water activities, which will go to consumers and participants of the Tapas and Flip Flops Route.
Those who have been awarded will collect their prizes at the local Tourist Office, along with their personal assessment of each cover and will be given a pair of flip-flops.
