New Dutch design style

From October 1 to October 12, 2008, the Moscow M’ARS Center is hosting an unprecedented exhibition “New Dutch Design”, which presents the work of more than 50 designers from the Netherlands.

Modern design is one of the main export products in Holland. Progressive and dynamic, it has earned a worldwide reputation as the most practical, rational and original. The New Dutch Design exhibition will feature the most outstanding objects of such designers as Floris Schoonderbeek, Lotte Van Laatum, Wieki Somers, Hella Jongerius, Marcel Wanders Wanders), Studio JOB and Studio Tjeerd Veenhoven.

The exhibits include The Dutch Tub by Floris Schoonderbeck, a multi-colored portable ваннаthat instantly turns any hangout into a fun pool party.

Visitors’ attention will also be drawn to the High Tea Pot by artist Waiki Somers. In a case made of rat fur, he triumphantly rises on the table, like a hunting trophy. The stylized porcelain skull shape challenges comic yet important questions on topics such as functionality, taste, hunting and pleasure.

Another striking object is Flower Tiles by Studio Tjeerd Veenhoven. During a humorous experiment – warming up the foam in a frying pan – a new method of melting has emerged. As the foam melts into the solution, all kinds of strings, fabrics and other decorations are added to it.
