Nervous pregnancy, the consequences of nervous breakdowns during pregnancy

Nerves during pregnancy will not lead to anything good. Obstetricians-gynecologists warn about this women who are registered in the antenatal clinic. A nervous pregnancy poses a direct threat to a baby’s physical and mental health, so stress and anxiety should be avoided.

What is a nervous pregnancy?

Increased emotionality during pregnancy is natural, especially if a woman is expecting her first child. How will he be born? How will the birth go? Will the baby be healthy? A woman spends months waiting for the birth, and during this long time she, unfortunately, has to deal with stressful situations.

Nervous breakdowns during pregnancy can lead to premature birth and fetal abnormalities

In the body of a pregnant woman, there are complex hormonal processes associated with the formation and development of the fetus, preparation for childbirth. It is hormones that are to blame for the overreaction of the nervous system.

A pregnant woman can react very violently to a casually spoken word or event that would not have caused any special emotions in her before.

A single nervous breakdown during pregnancy, which ended in full restoration of mental health, in the circle of loving people who are ready to support a woman, console, calm down, can pass without a trace.

But if a pregnant woman constantly experiences exhausting mood swings, cries, breaks into tantrums – these are signs of a nervous pregnancy. In this case, the woman needs the help of a doctor, including medication. If nothing is done, the consequences will be dire for both the mother and the newborn.

The consequences of a nervous pregnancy

Physiologically increased emotionality of pregnant women, from the point of view of doctors, is considered the norm. However, frequent tantrums and stress are very dangerous. In the first trimester, they can provoke a miscarriage, and in the second and third trimester, they can disrupt the normal development of the fetus and its presentation, which will complicate childbirth.

In addition, nervous breakdowns during pregnancy are fraught with rapid or premature birth. The baby may not cry at birth, which will require resuscitation of the newborn.

However, the most dangerous for a child are the following consequences of a nervous pregnancy:

  • pathology of internal organs, including the heart, kidneys;
  • asymmetry of the location of hands and feet, ears, fingers;
  • fetal hypoxia;
  • disruption of the brain up to mental retardation.

Even if there are no serious violations in the formation of the fetus, the child can be born whiny, nervous, fearful, easily excitable. He will sleep poorly, be annoyed by loud sounds and sunlight, and be afraid of changes in the environment. In the future, such a child will experience difficulties in learning and communicating with others.

A pregnant woman shouldn’t be nervous. This can lead to irreparable consequences, and sometimes to the loss of the child.
