Negroni cocktail – a subtle combination of gin, vermouth and Campari

An easy-to-prepare cocktail that is usually served as an aperitif. It has a beautiful appearance and original memorable taste. Due to the high strength (29-30 degrees) it is considered more of a masculine drink, although one part consists of sweet vermouth. All this is about the Negroni cocktail, the recipe of which the Italians are proud of.

Historical reference. The Negroni cocktail was invented by Count Camillo Negroni, who was born in 1868 in a family of Florentine aristocrats. As a military man, he traveled the world a lot, tasting alcohol from different countries. Over time, the Negroni developed two favorite drinks: London gin and the Americano cocktail, consisting of soda, Rosso martini and Campari bitters.

In 1919, Negroni came to his homeland in Florence. He went to his favorite bar, Casoni, and asked old friend Fosco Scarselli to make him an Americano, but instead of soda water, add gin to increase the strength. The resulting cocktail was liked not only by the count, but also by other guests. In 1948, the recipe was named after the creator.

During social events, Negroni only drank his own cocktail. He asked the bartenders to decorate the glass with an orange slice, so as not to confuse it with the Americano, which is very similar in appearance to the Negroni, but traditionally garnished with lemon.
