What should you know about type 1 diabetes?
Type 1 diabetes is called an incurable disease. It is characterized by the body’s inability to produce enough insulin. It is associated with damage to the beta cells of the pancreas, which are responsible for the production of this hormone. This may be the result of, inter alia, autoimmune disease, bacterial or viral infection. Type 1 diabetes can cause blindness, increase the risk of heart disease, and lead to kidney failure. It is important to coordinate mealtimes with the insulin you take to avoid excessive fluctuations in blood sugar levels. Karolina Stęplewska, a dietitian, wrote about the assumptions of a diet in diabetes.
10 products supporting the treatment of type 1 diabetes
It is said that type 1 diabetes must be lived with, it cannot be cured. And yet, many research results show that foods, including those commonly eaten, are able to stimulate the regeneration of pancreatic beta cells:
- One more recent study, published in the Canadian Journal of Physiology and Pharmakology, suggests that Linseed has a very positive effect on the body of patients with type 1 diabetes: it allows for better use of glucose, normalizes glycogenesis in liver and muscle tissues and normalizes the level of insulin in the plasma.
- Animal studies have shown that the amino acid L-arginine is able to stimulate the regeneration of beta cells in the course of diabetes. Good sources of arginine are high-protein products ie: dairy products, beef, pork, poultry, fish, legumes.
- An extract from avocado seeds has a repair and protective effect on pancreatic cells. This was confirmed by a study conducted in Nigeria in 2009.
- Research has shown that chard extract when administered to diabetic rats, it stimulates the regeneration of damaged beta cells.
- Scientific research conducted in Argentina in 2014 proves that curcumin protects the beta cells of the pancreas against the damaging effects of the immune system in the development of type 1 diabetes.
- Genistein contained, among others. in variety prevents the development of type 1 diabetes in mice.
- Research published in Complementary Therapies in Clinical Practice has shown that due to its stimulating effect on the repair of damaged beta cells, bee honey may be the subject of further therapeutic research.
- A 2010 study found that the consumption of one gram black cumin for 12 weeks has a wide range of beneficial effects in diabetes, including improves the functioning of beta cells.
- In 2011, studies were conducted that showed that stevia has anti-diabetic properties (regenerates pancreatic cells without negative effects)
The above points are just an example of hope for diabetics. It turns out that we have potential drugs in our cabinets. Of course, more research is needed, but the results already give much hope to people with type 1 diabetes.
