PSYchology

The natural is what happens on its own, easily, effortlessly and without internal protests.

Among people, the natural is very much appreciated: for the person himself, the “natural” saves energy and strength, and for those around him this is an indicator of not far-fetchedness, the sincerity of his behavior.

As a rule, all habitual and stereotyped reactions, automatisms are classified as natural, both innate and acquired, including educated.

If the natural is contrary to the reasonable, it is called irrational or bad manners.

Related concepts

Automatism is what a person does automatically without thinking why. Automatism explains why a person did this: «Automatically», natural — how, with what effort: «Easy, natural.»

A habit is a behaviorally (by repetition) formed specific program of behavior. What happens naturally, by itself, completely automatically under certain conditions. Habit says “what a person does”, automatism says “why, how” he does it: automatically, mechanically.

Natural and upbringing

Well-mannered people behave naturally, but behind their naturalness there is a big culture — years of study. It is unnatural for a baby to eat porridge with a spoon, he is taught to do this against his will. For a well-mannered person, speaking politely, eating with a spoon and fork, being attentive to others is already natural. He got used to it and it became his second nature.
