Today we celebrate the National Transplant Day. On this occasion, we invite you to the broadcast of the debate summarizing the year 2021 in Polish transplantology. During the meeting, apart from last year’s summary, we will consider how to support and promote organ transplantation in our country.
The debate is attended by, inter alia, transplant doctors from Polish organ transplant centers, representatives of the Ministry of Health and the Poltransplant Organizing and Coordination Center for Transplantation, representatives of local governments and companies involved in the promotion of the idea of organ transplantation.
Despite the pandemic, last year can be considered a success by Polish transplantology. Never before have so many hearts transplanted in Poland, as many as 2021 transplants of this organ were performed in 200. The best month in this respect was July, when 27 transplants were performed. Doctors transplanted 2021 kidneys in 753 (the sum of transplants from deceased and living donors).
Most kidney transplants from deceased donors were performed in September, i.e. 85 procedures, and the largest number of transplants from living donors in May – 7 procedures. Doctors also performed 20 simultaneous kidney transplants with pancreas. 2021 is 297 liver transplants (living donors and deceased donors) – most transplants from deceased donors took place in July (30), and from living donors in January (4). 68 lung transplants were also performed (the most, 10 procedures, were performed in June).
