Natchez blackberries: variety description

One of the earliest varieties of blackberries is the Natchez blackberry. The first berries begin to turn black in mid-July, when other varieties of this plant are still green.

Description of the Natchez blackberry variety

As already mentioned, this variety ripens early. The first berries can be enjoyed at the end of June and at the beginning of July.

Berries of the Natchez blackberry variety have a pronounced dessert taste

The main characteristics of the Natchez blackberry:

  • extended fruiting (from 40 days to 5 weeks);
  • shoots are powerful and thick, up to 6 m long;
  • white flower with 6 petals;
  • berries – black, shape – cylindrical;
  • fruit weight – up to 12,7 g.

Particular attention should be paid to the berries of this variety. They are distinguished by a pronounced brilliance and a real dessert taste. The berries have a subtle real blackberry aroma and are also particularly sweet.

Unfortunately, this variety does not like extreme cold weather and has low frost resistance. Therefore, the bushes must be covered for the winter with a dense special film. But this does not mean that in severe frost, your plant will die. Basically, the kidneys are prone to freezing. But the shelter will help to quickly solve the problem and save the plant from death.

This variety is well transported. Therefore, it is suitable for growing for sale. Berries retain their attractive marketable appearance for a long time, even in the case of long trips over long distances.

Characteristics of Natchez blackberries and cultivation features

In order for a variety to bear as many fruits as possible, you need to know how to grow it correctly. A few simple tips:

  1. It is best to plant bushes according to the scheme of 2,7-3 m.
  2. You need to grow blackberries on a support. The most popular option is to use three wires. The topmost wire must be fixed at a height of at least 1,7 m.
  3. During planting, nitrogen and mineral fertilizers must be added to the soil.
  4. Every spring, a standard plant feeding procedure should be followed. It is best to use urea and complex mineral fertilizers for this.
  5. If the bush grows in direct sunlight, and the air temperature exceeds 35 degrees, then it may be slightly baked. Therefore, it is advisable to cover it with a mosquito net or a white non-woven agrotechnical cloth.

The main advantages of this blackberry variety include the fact that the plant does not require increased attention to itself. The most important thing is to follow standard gardening rules. Young bushes grow very quickly, and therefore a good harvest can be obtained already in the first years of blackberry life.
