Among the currently available forms of contraception, hormonal contraception should be distinguished. It involves taking hormonal contraceptives to stop the ovulation process and prevent fertilization.
Various forms of hormonal contraception are available – implants placed under the skin, injections, patches, IUDs, vaginal rings and birth control pills. There are two groups of preparations taken orally. The first consists of combined contraceptive pills, the second consists of single-component pills, also known as mini-pills. The latter contain only progestogens, so they can be taken during pregnancy.
Both types of pills work primarily by inhibiting the ovulation process and changing the consistency of the mucus in the reproductive tract, which hinders the movement of sperm. Taking combined contraceptives may have a risk of inducing venous or arterial thrombosis, but the chance of developing these diseases is lower than the possibility of becoming pregnant during treatment. It is worth mentioning that complex hormonal agents reduce the risk of developing ovarian and endometrial cancer. In addition, they can affect sexual desire – both increasing and weakening its strength. A statistically lower level of menstrual bleeding and an improvement in menstrual pain were observed in women taking combined pills.
Among the preparations available on the market, there is Naraya, belonging to the group of complex, two-component hormonal agents.
Naraya – composition and operation
The composition of Naray includes synthetic steroid hormones: ethinylestradiol and drospirenone. Naraya is one of the monophasic agents – throughout the period of taking it, the amount of ingredients does not change, unlike the multi-phase tablets.
Naraya works by:
- inhibition of the maturation process of Graaf’s follicles, and as a result, inhibition of ovulation,
- change in the properties of the uterine mucosa, which significantly impedes the implantation of the embryo in it, if fertilization occurs during the treatment,
- changes in the properties of the cervical mucus, which hinders the transport of sperm,
- reducing the peristalsis of the fallopian tubes.
Naraya is absorbed very quickly; the highest concentration of its ingredients is maintained after 8 days from the beginning of the treatment.
Naraya – how to take?
Naraya is a preparation available in the form of coated tablets intended for oral use. The basic package contains 21 tablets, and its price is about PLN 25; A package of 63 tablets is also available, at a price of about PLN 62.
The preparation is taken once a day at the same time. The treatment begins with taking tablets for 21 days, followed by a weekly break. After this time, the withdrawal bleeding starts and then goes back to regular medication.
