Naprotechnology is designed to help people who have difficulty conceiving a child. Its creator believed that the main cause of problems with getting pregnant is a wrongly diagnosed and treated cause of infertility. Naprotechnology was born out of the belief that if we discover the true cause of infertility and start treating it, it may even be possible to conceive a child naturally.

What is naprotechnology?

Naprotechnology is a method of infertility treatment. It allows the cause of infertility to be identified and some of its cases to be treated. Naprotechnology was created in the 90s. What is naprotechnology and how effective is it?

Naprotechnology – application

The diagnosis of the causes of infertility is correct in about 97% of cases. However, knowing the cause is not a guarantee of recovery and pregnancy. Naprotechnology is used to treat infertility in certain cases.

Treatment of infertility through naprotechnology involves the use of minor surgery, hormonal agents and various therapies. Therefore, naprotechnology is helpful in treating infertility caused by ovulation disorders, endometriosis, ovarian cysts or hormonal disorders. Treatment of infertility in other cases is simply ineffective.

In the case of men, infertility most often results from a reduced number of sperm in the semen, their abnormal mobility or disturbances in the structure of the gametes. It is assumed that the correct amount of sperm in a milliliter of sperm is 20 million. As for sperm motility, it is tested on a scale of 1 to 4 (sperm showing motility 1 to 3 may have problems fertilizing the egg). The size of the sperm and their sticking together are also taken into account.

In women, in addition to the previously mentioned causes of infertility, there may also be mental problems.

important

It is important to answer the question of what is infertility and what is infertility. These two concepts are very often confused with each other. Infertility is the permanent inability to have children. In the case of women, these are infertile, certainly when they do not have a uterus, and in men, they are infertile when there is an accident, testicular surgery, hernia surgery with damage to the vas deferens or an infectious disease, e.g. mumps with testicular inflammation during puberty. It should be noted here that naprotechnology does not cure infertility in men and women.

Naprotechnology – effectiveness

Naprotechnology is effective in certain cases. This method is based on a very detailed observation of the woman’s menstrual cycle on the basis of the Creighton model. A couple trying to have a baby must master the skill of very meticulous observation, which should be carried out even several times a day. Observation results should be recorded in tables containing data on:

  1. the amount of cervical mucus and its consistency;
  2. vaginal discharge;
  3. ovulation;
  4. worsening of menstrual bleeding;
  5. spotting between periods and various disorders of the menstrual cycle;
  6. the length of the cycle itself and the following phases.

The data stored in the table are shown to the doctor. He orders additional hormonal tests and an ultrasound scan. After collecting all the documentation, he is then able to diagnose the cause of infertility. Knowing the exact cause of infertility, the doctor can adjust the appropriate treatment method. During naprotechnology, gynecological and hormonal treatment as well as surgical treatment can be used. Surgical procedures include, for example, laparotomy and laparoscopy.

important

After diagnosis, it often turns out that in order for conception to occur, it is enough to change your lifestyle to a healthier one. These changes include your diet, introducing physical activity into your day plan, and giving up cigarettes and alcohol. In other cases, intercourse at a certain point in time, i.e. ovulation, may help, which can significantly increase the effectiveness of efforts.

Treatment with naprotechnology lasts 24 months. Sometimes you can start trying for a baby earlier if your doctor agrees. The moment of conceiving a child should always be consulted with the attending physician, because he or she determines the best moment.

Naprotechnology and in vitro

Although many people treat naprotechnology as an alternative to IVF, unfortunately this is not true. Naprotechnology aims to restore the couple’s ability to conceive a child naturally. Therefore, it is not appropriate when the causes of infertility cannot be cured and prevent natural conception. For these couples, the only option is the in vitro method.

Naprotechnology – cost

Unfortunately, the costs resulting from naprotechnological treatment are high. The reason is the length of the treatment process itself, as well as a large number of visits and the purchase of additional materials. It is assumed that the cost of treatment with naprotechnology is comparable to the cost of in vitro fertilization.
