Experts have tested canned food, which is especially popular during the summer season. Spoiler: they didn’t like the contents of the cans.
“Quality Assurance”, “Top Grade”, “Premium”, “GOST” – cans with beef stew are generously decorated with promises that inside the buyer will find a product of excellent quality. In fact, it often turns out that horrible things are inside. Roskontrol specialists undertook to check what is actually packed in jars and offered under the guise of beef stew.
Products from five manufacturers went to the laboratory: Glavprodukt, Family Budget, Let’s Keep Traditions, Luga Cannery and Good Product. All are labeled as made in accordance with GOST, which means that they must correspond to it both in recipe and in nutritional value, and in appearance, taste and smell. In fact, the stewed meat producers had nothing to brag about.
In the stew from Glavprodukt and Family Budget, in addition to beef, pig DNA was found.

And in the stew of the Luga cannery, a vegetable component was generally found, which was exactly the same as meat. Cheating in its purest form.
However, in the stew made from meat, this very meat was also not so much. GOST assumes that meat and fat in a can should be at least 58 percent. But only Let’s Preserve Traditions made it to 55 percent. And even then they looked like pieces of rough connective tissue. And in the vegetable stew of the Luga cannery, meat and fat were 26 percent. Less than half the norm. The rest is broth. However, in the rest of the samples, the broth also takes up at least half a jar.
As for taste, smell and appearance, they are also far from ideal. Experts noted a strange taste in the Family Budget stew, as well as the product of the Luga Cannery – you can’t call it stew. In Glavprodukt, the meat lies in one piece, not separating, and contains connective tissue. There is this very fabric in the “Keeping Traditions” stew – in moderation, as experts say. In “Good Product” meat falls apart into small pieces weighing less than 30 grams – this also contradicts GOST.
What should you buy? Nothing, experts say. At the very least, only “Let’s Preserve Traditions” and “Good Product” are good for food. And it’s better to leave them on the shelf. The situation is almost like with minced chicken, only without bacteria – something, but this good is not in canned food.
By the way, a year ago, last May, Roskontrol also checked the stew. Then Yelinsky, OVA, Grodfood and Zolotoy Reserve / Bars went for examination. As a result, every last one was rejected – the “Ova” stew was starch, in “Grodfood” they found the DNA of pigs and poultry, in the “Golden Reserve” – poultry meat, and in “Elinsky. Premium “- both starch and poultry meat. All the best at once. However, experts hope that the situation has changed for the better since last year. But they did not check it themselves.
