Over time, more and more new names will appear in your Excel workbook and there will be an urgent need to somehow manage all this. Luckily, Excel offers a very handy way to manage names − Name Manager.
How to access the name manager
- To open a dialog box Name Manager, go to the tab formula and click on the button with the same name.
- A dialog box will open Name Manager:
What opportunities does this window give us?
- Complete data about each name that is available in the Excel workbook. If some of the data does not fit within the dialog box, you can always resize it.
- Possibility to create a new name. To do this, click on the button Create.A dialog box will open Create a name. This is the same window that we discussed in the lesson How to name a cell or range in Excel.
- Ability to edit any name from the list. To do this, highlight the required name and press the button Change.A dialog box will open Name change, where you can change the name of the range, the range itself, and the annotation for the name.
- Ability to remove any name from the list. To do this, highlight the desired name and press the button Remove.
- In the case when your Excel workbook contains a large number of names, you can always use the filter built into the dialog box. To do this, click on the button Filter and select what you need from the drop-down list.
