Polishing is a complex treatment of nail plates, as a result of which they acquire a healthy color, smooth surface and soft shine. Polished nails hold the polish better, but they look beautiful even without coating. You can carry out the procedure in the salon or on your own.

Polishing: features of the procedure
If your nails are ribbed, uneven, yellowed, or flaking, a regular manicure won’t be enough. Delicate grinding and polishing will help to put the plates in order. The procedure can be carried out in different ways. For strong nails with uneven relief, files are most often used. Coarse-grained for grinding, and finer-grained finishes. Choose durable professional tools such as durable and practical polyethylene foam files with a plastic base. These tools can be disinfected in any solution, they do not break, bend or injure the nails. Files with two working surfaces with different degrees of abrasiveness are very convenient; they can carry out both primary and final finishing of nails.
Polishing does more than just a decorative function. Correctly performed procedure stimulates the growth of plates, promotes proper blood circulation
If your nails are brittle and dull, sanding can be dispensed with by buffing it with a buffer. It works very gently, allowing you to achieve results in just 30 seconds. After polishing, the nails acquire a pleasant pink color and a dazzling shine.
Flaky nails do not tolerate dry sanding well. It is better to treat them with a soft bar, having previously applied medicinal oil or wax to the plate. During the polishing process, the wax will be absorbed and the nails will look healthier and stronger.
Another popular option is polishing with a manicure machine. Use special polishing attachments, they will return beautiful color and healthy shine to your nails in 10–20 seconds. With the help of a machine, you can also polish your toenails, the procedure will take a little longer. You can learn hardware manicure and pedicure using video tutorials.
Manicure specialists do not recommend polishing more than 1-2 times a month
Classic polishing: the salon method at home
For the procedure, you will need:
- maceration preparation, bath foam or essential oils
- hot manicure lotion
- buffer or double file for polishing
- soft terry towel
- cuticle remover
- orange tree sticks
- nail polish remover
- nail wax or polish
- cuticle oil
- hand balm or cream
- suede cloth
Remove the nail polish before starting the procedure. Use a file or nippers to shape the plates to the desired shape. Prepare a hand bath by adding a special maceration preparation to warm water or some bubble bath with a couple of drops of essential oil. Sweet orange or tea tree oil has a beneficial effect on nails. Soak your fingers in water for 5-7 minutes, then pat them dry with a soft towel.
Weak nails and dry skin can be treated with a hot mineral oil and glycerin based lotion. Heat the drug in a water bath, pour it into a bath and lower your hands into it for 7 minutes. Then dry your fingers thoroughly, massage in the rest of the lotion and proceed with further processing.
Free the nail plate from the overgrown cuticle. Put a drop of liquid with fruit acids on it, wait 30-60 seconds, and then scrape off the dead skin with wooden sticks. Move the cuticle towards the base of the nail. After that, process the nails with a coarse-grained file, removing the upper stratum corneum. Act quickly: cutting too long will injure and weaken the plates. Make smooth movements from the base of the nail to the tip to avoid delamination.
After each procedure, the polishing tools must be disinfected. A special disinfecting solution, which is used in salons, is best suited.
When the surface of the nails is smooth and pink in color, take a fine-grained nail file or buffer and give the plates the final shine. To enhance the shine, drip polishing lotion onto your nails. Cover weakened and brittle plates with vitamin wax. Then, buff the nail with quick, gentle strokes until the liquid or wax is completely absorbed. For final polishing, you can use soft suede shreds, they are especially good for processing weak and brittle plates.
Do not treat nails that are affected by fungus or severely damaged. First you need to cure the plates
Finally, apply an emollient oil to the cuticle and massage into the skin until completely absorbed. You can massage your hands with balm or moisturizing lotion, this procedure will benefit not only your nails, but also your skin. After that, the nails can be covered with colored varnish, it will last longer and lie smoother.
