A man heard from his adored wife: «I don’t love you.» An old woman’s beloved cat has died. A young woman—with a good job and a happy marriage—feels like her life has no meaning. And the other is afraid to go outside after being attacked by hooligans.
They need psychological help, but for various reasons a long course of psychotherapy is not possible. How can a psychologist help quickly and effectively? To begin with, save the time it takes to get to know each other: the necessary trust must be established almost immediately. Natalya Manukhina, the author and host of educational trainings and programs, suggests taking into account the thinking patterns that the client uses without realizing it. Do not teach the client the language of the psychotherapist, but immediately speak in his own language. But in order to fully «engage» in the client, the psychotherapist, oddly enough, must not forget about himself. Therefore, special attention is paid to the feelings of the therapist at all stages of work. For example, the circumstance that the therapist’s personal situation affects his understanding of the problem, that some clients turn out to be «difficult» for him, that the therapist regrets parting with his clients. The book also contains short-term techniques from different approaches — transactional analysis, narrative therapy, neurolinguistic programming — with a step-by-step description of the psychotherapist’s actions.
