Myths about cellulite

Cellulite is a secondary sexual characteristic; it happens to every woman; men are not immune from it either; creams eliminate it. These and other myths about the “orange peel” are so tenacious that it is almost more difficult to deal with them than with the “peel” itself. But we’ll try.

Myth 1. Cellulite is a female sex characteristic.

A sedentary lifestyle is one of the causes of orange peel.

No. Women who do not have cellulite exist (we envy each other), and there are quite a lot of them: according to statistics, “orange peel” occurs in 80%, which means that 20% are spared from it. And yes, cellulite is a disease, its official name is edematous fibrosclerotic panniculopathy (EFSP), or lipodystrophy.

The main reasons for the appearance of OFSP:

  • violation of the hormonal level (your endocrinologist will tell you what tests will help identify the problem);

  • passive lifestyle;

  • unbalanced diet with excessive salt and protein intake;

  • love for shoes with heels and too tight clothes, especially jeans;

  • bad habits.

There is also such a thing as heredity, but it has an indirect relation to cellulite. That is, you can inherit problem vessels from your mother and grandmother (and cellulite is directly related to impaired microcirculation), but pits and tubercles on the pope and thighs will only be a consequence.

Myth 2. Despite the “myth 1”, cellulite can happen to men too.

No. It will take a long time to describe the mechanism of the appearance of the “crust”, so we will not dwell on this issue within the framework of this article. However, let’s give a hint: the point here is the location of fat cells – adipocytes. To make sure that the strong half of humanity is reliably insured against cellulite by their own gender, google how adipocytes are located in men and women, and you will find a clue.

Myth 3. Cellulite can be eliminated with cosmetics.

The main characters of anti-cellulite products are caffeine and horse chestnut extract.

Yes. But with one caveat: anti-cellulite cosmetics work only in combination with fitness, proper nutrition, cosmetic procedures (lymphatic drainage massage, LPG hardware massage, ultrasound, meso- and carboxytherapy).

In the composition of anti-cellulite products, look for ingredients with lymphatic drainage action:
  • horse chestnut extract;

  • caffeine.

For the tool to have an effect, follow the following rules:

  1. the skin should be preheated (for example, take a shower);

  2. for better penetration of the components of the anti-cellulite cream, use a scrub before applying it;

  3. apply the cream for a long time;

  4. Apply the cream with massage movements.

Myth 4. Cellulite can be avoided.

The more liquid you drink, the less risk of getting cellulite.

Yes. No one is 100% safe from the “orange peel”, but it is in your power to make its manifestations minimal. These are the tips that experts give to those who want to prevent the occurrence of cellulite or its transformation from the minimum in the first stage (its signs are uneven skin color in problem areas and slight swelling) to the maximum in the fourth (characterized by the presence of noticeable pits and skin laxity).

  • Don’t forget about physical activity.

  • Don’t sit cross-legged.

  • Wear loose clothing, tight fitting slows down blood and lymph flow.

  • Follow your posture. You will stoop, there will be problems with the arch of the foot and, as a result, the lymph flow in the legs will worsen.

  • Wear compression underwear and stockings. No, not every day, but, for example, on long flights, it is desirable.

  • Adjust your diet. Reduce the amount of salt, practice a low-sodium diet. Your menu is vegetables and fruits, seafood and chicken, yogurt and almonds.

One of the top tips is to keep your hormone levels in check. Once a year, pay a visit to the endocrinologist and take tests.

Cosmetics Review

Body scrubs

Soft body scrub with soy milk and honey aroma, Kiehl’s

Eliminates dead skin cells delicately, but effectively: after a session of exfoliation, the skin of the body is smooth, even, soft.

Body Scrub “Precious Beauty Scrub”, Garnier

If you use this scrub before using an anti-cellulite product, the skin’s susceptibility to components that smooth out the “orange peel” will increase. Contains crushed argan seed husks for thorough exfoliation, and argan and almond oils to nourish skin.

Anti-cellulite products

Concentrate Celluli Eraser, Biotherm

The manufacturer promises that after two weeks of using the product, the signs of cellulite will become less pronounced, and the skin will become noticeably more even. This is possible due to the ability of the formula with caffeine and healing coralline to enhance microcirculation and drainage. Apply to problem areas with massage movements 1-2 times a day.

Firming Body Butter “Ultra Elasticity”, Garnier

An interesting feature: citrus oils – lemon, tangerine, grapefruit – are struggling with the “orange peel”. The oil makes the skin of problem areas more toned and elastic.
