The Israeli Ministry of Health said it will analyze the small number of cases of myocarditis in people vaccinated with Pfizer’s COVID-19 preparation. It is unclear whether the number of cases is above normal and whether it is related to vaccination.
Pfizer vaccine – side effects
The head of the government pandemic team, Prof. Nachman Asz. He said that the initial analysis identified 62 cases of myocarditis among more than 5 million vaccinated people, mainly after the second dose of the preparation and in men under 30 years of age. However, as he emphasized, it is not clear whether this number is above the norm and whether the recorded cases are related to vaccination. He added that the matter is being investigated by the Ministry of Health.
Asz also noted that this ailment, which often ends without complications, can be caused by a number of viral infections and other factors.
According to Pfizer, an unusually high incidence of this condition has not been observed in the vaccinated.
«We have not seen a higher incidence of myocarditis than in the general population. (…) There is no evidence at the moment to claim that myocarditis is a risk associated with the use of the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine »- the company said. As part of an agreement with the Israeli government, Pfizer has access to the medical database on the vaccinated.
The group’s vaccine has so far received almost 60 percent. with approximately 9 million inhabitants of Israel. Since the vaccination campaign began, the number of new infections and deaths has fallen sharply, from 10 to 80. daily in January to the current level of approx. XNUMX infections in the last two days.
As quoted by the Reuters agency, prof. Nadaw Dawidowicz from Ben Gurion University, even if there was a link between the disease and vaccine use, the risk would be small and temporary, much smaller than that of COVID-19.
