Mydocalm forte contains the active ingredient tolperisone, which reduces the tone of skeletal muscles. The structure of toleperisone is similar to that of lidocaine, and just like it, it causes reduced excitability of neurons, inhibits the conduction of impulses. Mydocalm forte is a drug that is used in neurological diseases or after treatments and operations.

Mydocalm forte – indications

Mydocalm forte is prescribed to adult patients for the symptomatic treatment of post-stroke spasticity. The active substance of the preparation is tolperyzon, an organic chemical compound that is quickly absorbed by the body.

Mydocalm forte is used in multiple sclerosis, post-traumatic diseases, muscle contractures, and spinal cord diseases. The preparation should be taken orally after a meal.

Mydocalm forte – dosage

Mydocalm forte is taken as film-coated tablets and should be taken orally. Do not exceed the recommended dose of the preparation, as it may pose a threat to your life or health.   6. First trimester of pregnancy.

Mydocalm forte – precautions

1. Taking Mydocalm forte may cause side effects. These can be both skin reactions and anaphylactic shock, which is life-threatening.

2. Especially women or patients allergic to Mydocalm forte or other drugs, as well as elderly patients are exposed to the side effects (mentioned above).

3. If you notice during the use of the preparation: rash, hives, reddening of the skin, itching, shortness of breath, hypotension, tachycardia – consult a doctor immediately.

4. If you are allergic to the substance: tolperisone, do not take the drug again.

5. Patients who are allergic to lidocaine must be careful as cross-hypersensitivity to tolperizone may occur.

6. People with galactose intolerance, lactose deficiency and glucose-galactose malabsorption should not use Mydocalm forte because it contains lactose.

  1. It may be necessary to reduce the dose of Mydocalm forte when using other muscle relaxants and drugs acting on the central nervous system in parallel.
  2. Mydocalm fortenasila the action of niflumic acid. There are times when you need to reduce the dose of the concomitantly used niflumic acid.
  3. If other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are taken simultaneously with the drug, the doctor will recommend reducing their dose.
  4. Exercise caution when concomitantly taking drugs metabolised by the cytochrome P-2 isozyme CYP6D450 (e.g. thioridazine, tolterrodine, venlafaxine, atomoxetine, desipramine, dextromethorphan, metoprolol, nebivolol, perphenazine) as their serum levels may increase.
  5. Take Mydocalm forte with a meal, it will increase its bioavailability.

Mydocalm forte and possible side effects

Mydocalm forte may cause, inter alia, the following side effects.

  1. Not so often: insomnia, sleep disturbances, headache and dizziness, sleepiness, low blood pressure, anorexia, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, dry mouth, indigestion, nausea, muscle weakness, muscle pain, aches and pains;
  2. Rarely: paraesthesia (sensory disturbance – pins and needles, numbness), disturbance in concentration, lethargy, depression, seizures, decreased response to stimuli, visual disturbances (blurred vision), tremors, dizziness, tinnitus, palpitations, increased heart rate, flushing, shortness of breath, epistaxis, rapid breathing, upper abdominal pain, constipation, flatulence, vomiting, allergic dermatitis, excessive sweating, itching, hives, rash, urination disorder, proteinuria, thirst, feeling hot, liver dysfunction (increased bilirubin in the blood, changes in liver enzymes), haematological disorders (decreased number of platelets, increased number of white blood cells).
  3. Very rarely: anemia, swollen lymph nodes, decreased heart rate, increased thirst, osteopenia, chest discomfort, increased blood creatinine levels,
  4. Rare hypersensitivity reactions, very rarely possible development of a severe hypersensitivity reaction and anaphylactic shock.
