What is pyloric stenosis?

Pyloric stenosis is a relatively rare birth defect causing enlargement of the muscle ring (pylorus) that regulates the passage of food from the stomach to the intestine.

Symptoms of pyloric stenosis

They usually manifest between the 2nd and the 6th week of life:

  • Profuse and violent vomiting (in jets) after each feeding. At first, they are minimal and always white.
  • Gradual weight loss, fatigue and listlessness.
  • Baby always seems to be hungry.

Beware of dehydration ! If in doubt, see your doctor immediately or take your child to the emergency room.

Treat pyloric stenosis: surgery is necessary

To avoid any risk of dehydration, your little one will certainly be placed on a drip for a few days. The pyloric stenosis will be permanently cured thanks to a simple and very effective surgery, which consists of incising the responsible muscle. A biological assessment will be carried out before.

Pyloric stenosis or GERD: confused or associated diseases
