Music will replace drugs for hypertension

Scientists have found that this method of relieving symptoms of the disease can in some cases replace pharmaceutical drugs for people with moderate hypertension. Experiments have proved this.

The study involved forty-eight people from forty-five to seventy years old who suffered from hypertension. Twenty-eight of them listened to classical, traditional Indian or Celtic music for half an hour a day for a month. The remaining twenty hypertensive patients led their normal lives. For members of the “musical” group, the pressure returned to normal, while for the representatives of the second group, it remained at the same level.

“We are encouraged by the results that provide benefits for both patients and clinicians, who can now confidently use music as a safe, effective, non-pharmacological treatment or as an adjunct to therapy,” said experiment leader Dr. Pietro A. Modesti from the University of Florence.

“It’s nice to know that now there is a simple and affordable method that can help people reduce blood pressure without resorting to medication,” he added.
