Music to gently wake up baby
Supporting baby and his learning with music allows him to gently introduce him to the world around him and to the different sounds of his daily life.
The benefits of music for babies
Several studies show that the baby would be calm longer when listening to music. With their regular rhythms and repetitions, the songs would therefore allow the little one to be reassured and to feel confident. So initiate them from an early age to gentle musical listening by singing lullabies or nursery rhymes and offering them educational musical games.
Music, in addition to creating a climate of trust and a bond between parents and child, can play several major roles in the development of your baby. It allows him, for example, to encourage and develop his imagination when he invents words. Music is also important for identifying and understanding everyday words and objects. Thanks to the story of the rhyme or the lullaby, the child trains to memorize in a playful way and thus develops his intelligence.
Wake up baby with music
As the baby grows up, he becomes more and more interested in noises and more particularly in those for which he is responsible. He speaks and shouts to listen to himself and discover his voice, he throws objects on the ground to hear them fall etc. It is therefore the right time to start your musical awakening.
Give him some pretty audiobooks to start this new learning smoothly. Thanks to nursery rhymes, the sounds of farm animals or the sounds of fire engines etc, baby has fun and learns at the same time. You can also opt for toys that mimic musical instruments like small pianos, xylophones or timpani. These activities and games develop his senses by giving him sensory experiences.
Finally, take advantage of quiet play times to sing along with him and encourage him to imitate you. With short rhymes and simple, repetitive lyrics, help him practice memorization and build vocabulary. Because it is often through play and fun that learning is easiest and best integrated.
“Home” musical activities
No reason to spend money on expensive equipment to introduce your baby to music, you just need to sing along and encourage him to imitate you. From his first days of life, sing sweet little songs just for him, then when he grows up, make it a daily ritual (in the car, during dressing, etc.). Be careful not to tire the infant with too loud noises or over too long a period. Very sensitive, the little one could get tired and be irritated by this music.
With a larger child, encourage him to pay attention to the different sounds of the songs in order to make him discover the sounds of animals and those of his daily life. Also offer him to play a musical instrument, made with him at home or bought ready-made. You can, for example, enclose rice in well-sealed containers and thus allow the child to make his own maracas.
Adapt and choose the music according to the baby’s age
If music is recommended from the birth of your child, there are nevertheless activities and games to favor according to his age:
- From 0 to 6 months, musical mobiles are the perfect toys. With short, repetitive music and regular movements, they interest the baby without stimulating him too much and encourage him to fall asleep;
- From 6 to 12 months, you can introduce rattles and awakening tables. Little by little, baby acquires agility and grasps objects, then give him a music box or light and sound toys to intensify his curiosity;
- From 12 to 18 months, this is the time to introduce him to musical instruments and pull-along toys that make sounds and music. But be careful to always check that these noises are not too loud so as not to damage your hearing, which is still fragile.
So to encourage baby to develop his taste for music and gently awaken him, you will need to sing from an early age and encourage him to participate. The house then becomes a warm and friendly place that will allow the child to blossom in song.
