Multibiotic is a preparation used in skin infections (e.g. infected small wounds, skin infections in burns and frostbites) and to prevent secondary infections in minor cuts, scratches, abrasions and burns. Multibiotic – indications and dosage

Multibiotic is recommended:

  1. in primary and secondary skin infections (e.g. infected small wounds, skin infections in burns and frostbites) caused by gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including Pseudomonas,
  2. in the prevention of secondary infections, minor cuts, scrapes, abrasions and burns.

Dosage

After washing and drying the skin, a small amount of Multibiotic ointment 2–5 × / d should be applied to it, usually not longer than 7 days. If necessary, use with a protective dressing.

Multibiotic and contraindications

Contraindications to the use of Multibiotic are:

  1. hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation, aminoglycosides or polymyxins, pregnancy and breastfeeding,
  2. do not use in children up to 12 years of age or on mucous membranes, eyes, deep wounds or stab wounds, severe burns, large areas of the skin, oozing lesions.

Multibiotic – warnings

  1. Do not use Multibiotic on deep or stab wounds, severe or large burns, and areas of damaged skin.
  2. Should not be used in the eyes.
  3. Multibiotic should not be used on oozing lesions.
  4. Patients allergic to one aminoglycoside or polymyxin drug may be allergic to other aminoglycosides or polymyxins.
  5. Treatment should be discontinued in the event of a severe allergic reaction.
  6. In patients with impaired renal function who take systemic nephrotoxic or ototoxic drugs, the use of the preparation may increase this effect; applying the preparation to large areas of damaged skin may damage or even complete loss of hearing.
  7. The risk of nephro- and ototoxic effects of Multibiotic is increased in people with impaired renal function.
  8. The auxiliary substances in the ointment (parahydroxybenzoates) may cause a local allergic skin reaction (e.g. contact dermatitis).

Multibiotic with other drugs

  1. If the active substances are absorbed after the application of Multibiotic to a large area or damaged skin, interactions with other preparations applied at the same time may occur.
  2. Concomitant use with orally administered neomycin increases the risk of allergy.
  3. The simultaneous or subsequent oral or topical application to the skin of other aminoglycosides (e.g. paromomycin) or other drugs with potential nephro- and / or neurotoxic effects (cisplatin, vancomycin, amphotericin B, colistin, variomycin) should be contraindicated due to the possibility of additive toxicities. side effects.
  4. Do not use the drug simultaneously with drugs that are toxic to the kidneys and hearing organs, such as loop diuretics (e.g. furosemide, ethacrynic acid). These drugs, administered simultaneously with aminoglycosides, increase their concentration in the blood, which increases the risk of hearing problems, including deafness, which can occur even after discontinuation of the drug.
  5. Cross-allergic reactions to paromomycin, kanamycin, tobramycin, amikacin and isepamycin may occur when neomycin is applied to the skin.

Multibiotic – side effects

When using Multibiotic, skin allergic reactions may appear:

  1. itching
  2. rash,
  3. reddening,
  4. swelling,
  5. ototoxicity,
  6. irritation at the site of application,
  7. superinfection with resistant strains of bacteria or Candida yeasts.
